GPSMAP 3005C Software Version 2.40

To view the software version, complete the following steps: 

    1.Press and Hold the ADJ/MENU key to access the Main Menu.
    2.Press the DOWN arrow key until the System tab is selected.
    3.Press the RIGHT arrow key until the General tab is selected.
    4.Press the DOWN arrow key to move to "System Information" and
      press the ENTER key.
    5.The software version will be displayed on the screen.

Warnings:

If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for which
it is designed, you will not be able to operate that unit. If attempts to 
upload software fail, you may need to return the unit to GARMIN for service.

Notes:

Version 2.00 is the initial release version for GPSMAP 3005C.

Any units with pre-release alpha or beta software will have
all nonvolatile memory erased when version 2.00 is loaded.

Version 2.30 to 2.40:

Version 2.20 to 2.30:

1.   Added multiple language capability. In addition to English,
     user may select from 16 other languages. 

2.   The PRN (satellite ID) was incorrect in the GPGSA & GPGSV 
     NMEA output sentences.  It was off by one (too high).
     This has been corrected.

3.   NMEA output sentence for autopilot B (GPAPB) has been added.

4.   Optimized the NMEA transmit rate.

5.   An issue with the route data/numbers list not being updated correctly 
     when the route has 9 or more waypoints has been corrected.

6.   Position of the sun/moon on the celestial page was incorrect when the
     sky orientation was set to Track up. This has been corrected.

Upload Instructions - Serial Port Update:

Instructions for uploading the new software to your GPSMAP using Microsoft
Windows 95 or later:

1.  Download the appropriate self-extracting archive file onto your hard drive.

2.  Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file.

3.  Connect your unit to a free serial port (Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC with
    a PC interface cable.

4.  Turn on your unit and ensure the Serial Data Format is set to "Garmin Data
    Transfer" on comm port 1. You can find this setting in the Main Menu on the
    "Comm" tab's, "Port 1" tab.

5.  Change to the directory in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., C:\GARMIN),
    and run the update program, updater.exe.  Select the appropriate serial
    port and click "OK" to begin the software upload.
    
    During the upload, the display will indicate "Software Loading...."
    The upload process should take 2-5 minutes to complete. When the upload
    is completed, the unit will reset itself and turn on normally.

Upload Instructions - USB Card Programmer Update

Instructions for uploading the new software using a USB Card Programmer:

1.  Download the appropriate self-extracting archive file onto your hard drive.

2.  Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file.

3.  Make sure a USB Card Programmer is connected to your computer, and that a
    data card is inserted into the programmer.

4.  Change to the directory in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., C:\GARMIN),
    and run the update program, program_card.exe.  Select "Card Programmer"
    and click "OK" to begin the software upload.

5.  Remove the data card from the USB Card Programmer.  Make sure that your GPS
    unit is powered on and insert the data card into the unit.  Highlight the 
    "Update Software" button and press the ENTER key to begin uploading the 
    software to the unit.  During the upload, the display will indicate 
    "Software Update Progress".  The upload process will take up to 10 minutes to 
    complete.  When the upload is completed, the unit will reset itself and
    turn on normally.
