GARMIN GPS V Software Upgrade Information

http://www.garmin.com

------------------------------------------------------------

WARNINGS:

Be sure to backup all data like routes, waypoints and track with MapSource
before updating the software. Once the GPS V has been updated you can use
MapSource again to restore your data.

Uploading software versions older than what is currently in your GPS V
can cause all stored data to be erased.

If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for
which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that unit.

If the upload software fails, verify that you have good batteries installed
and try again. If repeated upload attempts fail, you may need to return
the unit to GARMIN for service.

------------------------------------------------------------

Instructions for uploading the new software to your GPS V using Microsoft
Windows 95/98/NT:

1. Download the appropriate self-extracting archive file for your GPS V onto
    your hard drive.

2. Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file.

3. Connect your GPS V to a free serial port (Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC
    with a PC interface cable.

4. Turn on your GPS V and ensure the Format is set to "GARMIN". You
can find this setting on the "Interface" system setup tab page.

5. Change to the directory in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., C:\GARMIN),
and run the update program, updater.exe. Select the appropriate serial
port and click "OK" to begin the software upload.

During the upload, the GPS V's display will indicate "Software Loading...."
The upload process should take 3-10 minutes to complete. When the upload
is completed, the GPS V will reset itself and turn on normally.

Changes Made From Versions 2.40 to 2.50:

1. Further improvements and corrections for WAAS support in the Eastern Hemisphere.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.30 to 2.40:

1. Fixed potential memory corruption problem that could occur when tracking
more than one WAAS satellite simultaneously.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.20 to 2.30:

1. Improve WAAS/EGNOS satellite selection algorithm to select the satellite
with the most beneficial corrections given the unit's current position.
Units will not use a WAAS/EGNOS satellite if the unit's current position
is outside of a given WAAS/EGNOS satellite's service volume.

2. Improved map drawing for units using Atlantic BlueChart v5.

3. Updated French translations.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.12 beta to 2.20:

1. Improved auto-route calculation process when transiting from
    poor to good satellite reception.

2. Reset map zoom levels to correct a problem that was preventing areas
like parks and lakes from being displayed on the map.

3. Corrected auto zoom behavior while navigating a TracBack route.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.11 beta to 2.12 beta:

1. Corrected intermittent problem that would caused the GPSV to lockup
   during an off route recalculation.

2. Added support to allow route preference selection when using the
"Following Roads" option for manual route navigation.

3. Disable "lock on road" feature when navigating a TracBack.

4. Added units selection for distance to the waypoint projection page.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.09 beta to 2.11 beta:

	preserved between power cycles.

6. Allowed ete/eta to be updated prior to moving.

7. Improved turn arrow display when multiple turns are in view.

8. Improved general navigation and route recalculation operation.

------------------------------------------------------------

Changes Made From Versions 2.08 to 2.09 beta:

1. Added support for adding and removing via points.

The menu on the active route page now contains a new command to
insert/remove "via points" in the active route. Via points are intermediate
destinations that will be reached on the way to the final destination.
They may also be used to modify the active route to select an alternate path.

If the active route does not contain a via point, the menu will include
the "Add Via Point" option. This lets you use the map or Find menus to
specify a single via point. If the active route already contains a via point,
the Routes menu will instead include the "Remove Via Point" option. This will
remove the first via point from the active route.

After adding or removing a via point, the active route is immediately recalculated.

2. Added "Follow Roads" support to manual routes.

The menu on the saved "Route List" page now contains a new command to
"Follow Roads". If the highlighted route is a manual route this feature
will calculate an autoroute that will treat each point in the manual route
as a "via point". This feature can also be used by selecting the "Navigate"
button from the manual "Route Review" page.

3. Added the ability to display the next turn "Turn Review" page by using the
UP and DOWN cursor keys during autoroute navigation.

When the page showing turn information is displayed by selecting a turn from the
Active Route page, the DOWN key will change the screen to show the following turn.
Similarly, the UP key will show the previous turn.

4. Added support for selecting interstate names found in more that one state when
searching for interstate exits. Example I-470 in Kansas or Missouri.

5. Added "Shutdown On Arrival" to the "Guidance" setup tab page.

If set to "Yes" the GPSV will turn off automatically after the "Arriving at Destination"
message has been set and the vehicle speed drops to 0.

6. Added EOV Hungarian Grid and South African Grid support

7. Correct reported calculator page problems.

8. Added "Memory Race" Game.

Clear the board by matching all of the symbol pairs together in the shortest time.
Select the desired playing area and size then highlight "Start" and press the "Enter"
key to begin. Walk or travel until your position appears in a square. Press the
"Enter" key to open the chest and reveal the symbol. Now move to another square to
attempt to find the matching symbol. If the symbol in the next chest does not match the
first then both chests are closed. The game is completed when all symbol pairs are found.
