GARMIN eTrex Summit Software Upgrade Information

------------------------------------------------------------

WARNINGS:
If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for
which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that unit.

If the upload software fails, verify that you have good batteries installed
and try again. If repeated upload attempts fail, you may need to return
the unit to GARMIN for service.

------------------------------------------------------------

Instructions for uploading the new software to your eTrex Summit using Microsoft
Windows 95/98/NT:

1. Download the appropriate self-extracting archive file for your eTrex Summit
    onto your hard drive.

2. Unzip the files in the archive by running the downloaded executable file.

3. Connect your eTrex Summit to a free serial port (Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC
    with a PC interface cable.

4. Turn on your eTrex Summit and ensure the Serial Data Format is set to "GARMIN".
You can find this setting in Menu Page -> Setup -> Interface.

5. Change to the directory in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., C:\GARMIN),
and run the update program, updater.exe. Select the appropriate serial
port and click "OK" to begin the software upload.

During the upload, the eTrex Summit's display will indicate "SWT LOADING"
The upload process should take 3-10 minutes to complete. When the upload
is completed, the eTrex Summit will reset itself and turn on normally.

    to one another.

2. Updated French translations.

2. Added distance in Yard support.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.13 to 2.20:

1. Corrected problem that could potentially split tracklog
into many small segments. The tracklog will still segment
each time unit enters or leaves poor coverage and plot
elevation points when it does not have a lock on satellites.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.12 to 2.13:

1. Changed tracklog operation to break track line segments
   between power cycles.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.11 to 2.12:

1. Corrected problem assigning the selected map datum.

2. Changed operation to continue updating elevation related
data when satellite reception has been lost.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.10 to 2.11:

1. Added RT 90 position format.

2. Corrected the output of the heading NMEA sentence.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.07 to 2.10:

1. No users visible change. Added software compatibility for alternative
   hardware configurations.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.06 to 2.07:

1. Fixed distortion detection algorithm so that the "HOLD LEVEL" message will work properly
in high declination areas of the world.

2. Added Czech and Polish languages.

3. Corrected some translations for the Dutch language.

4. Prevented selecting Sight 'N Go option from the Compass page when the compass is not
calibrated or if the unit does not have a good position fix.

5. Corrected New Zealand position format selection.

6. Changed UTC offset for the Moscow time zone to +3:00.

7. Removed UTC and LCL labels from sunrise and sunset times.

8. When selecting a route to follow, the first and last waypoint names, used to determine
which direction to navigate, are displayed correctly for all languages.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.05 to 2.06:

1. Added an Advanced Skyview mode on the GPS page that displays the location in the sky of
each satellite that the unit is tracking. Along with this skyview is the signal strength
for each satellite. To get to this new mode press the ENTER key while on the GPS page and
an option menu will appear. This option menu contains two items: SETUP DISPLAY and
ADVANCED SKYVIEW. The SETUP DISPLAY option will take you to the Display Setup page for
adjusting contrast and light controls. Selecting the ADVANCED SKYVIEW option will switch
the GPS page to display the advanced skyview information.

2. User now has the option to display the normalized pressure or local ambient pressure on
the Elevation page cycle field. The option to switch between these displays is on the
System Setup page. The normalized pressure is referenced against the last calibrated
altitude or pressure and is not referenced against GPS altitude.

3. Added multiple language support. From the System Setup page you can select from 12
   different languages.

4. Fixed the save track bug that was introduced in version 2.05.

5. Fixed the elevation profile of saved tracks to display the correct distance.

6. Fixed Max/Min elevation recording.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.04 to 2.05:

1. Allow display of speed and track when velocity is below 1.0 MPH and selective
    availability is off.

2. Fixed altimeter Auto Calibration so that it can be turned off and on correctly.

3. Fixed altimeter calibration problem where the new setting did not always get saved
    between power cycles.

4. Fixed route leg distance calculation that occurred when the unit did not have a fix.

5. Prevent rare occurrences of showing Compass heading when set to GPS only.

6. Removed local pressure from the cycle field on the Elevation page since it was causing
    confusion.

7. Added Vertical Speed to the cycle field on the Elevation page.

8. When GPS and Compass are off, the Map page will no longer display invalid characters
    under the directional symbol.

9. Fixed Dutch grid conversions and added new Dutch map datum to accompany the Dutch grid.

10. The map datum list on the Units Setup page is now displayed alphabetically.

11. Added an angle setup on the Units Setup page that allows you to display angles in
    Degrees or Mils.

   standards.

Changes Made from Versions 2.02 to 2.03:

1. The UTC label is no longer displayed on the time when the UTC offset is zero.

------------------------------------------------------------
Changes Made from Versions 2.01 to 2.02:

1. Added multiple routes (up to 20 routes with 50 waypoints per route).
NOTE: THE CURRENT ROUTE IN THE ETREX SUMMIT WILL BE DELETED!
To save the current route, transfer the route to a PC before performing the
upgrade, then transfer back to the eTrex Summit after performing the upgrade.

2. Editing the location of a waypoint is now displayed correctly.

3. Altimeter calibration using GPS is improved to get a smoother, more accurate
    vertical reference.
