===============================================================
General Information.
===============================================================
AT&T WavePOINT Software comprises the WavePOINT Configurator
including a WavePOINT image, an environment for the
Configurator, the Access Control Table Manager, the online
Point-to-Point Diagnostics Utility, the WaveMonitor Utility
and the SNMP MIBs.

The SNMP agent is included in the WavePOINT image.

The environment files, in the subdirectory \ENV, can be used to
create an NDIS driver environment to run the Configurator.
Consult chapter 2 of the WavePOINT Installation and Operation
Guide for information on how to set up such an environment.

In directory \UTIL you will find the Configurator, the WavePOINT
image Access Control Table Manager, the online Point-to-Point
Diagnostic Utility and the WaveMonitor tool.

The directory \MIB contains WavePOINT and WaveLAN Management
Information Bases (MIBs). The readme information concerning the
MIBs can be found at the end of this file.

===============================================================
Update from existing software.
===============================================================

If you have received this version as an update of your old
WavePOINT software, It is useful to get a copy of the new
WavePOINT Installation and Operation guide, as some new
features are added (see below). The address to get is given
under the section Technical Support.

To update the WavePOINT with the new software, follow the
procedure for configuring the WavePOINT outlined in chapter
3 of the WavepOINT guide.
You can also find the guide in PostScript format on the BBS of
which you can find the number below.

===============================================================
Notes.
===============================================================
  1.) WavePOINT Ethernet Medium Selection:
      Note that after changing the medium selection switches,
      you must power-down and power-up the WavePOINT for the
      new settings to take effect, as the switches are only
      read during the power-on sequence.

  2.) Wired LAN NDIS environment:
      When installing the Configurator for the wired side, you
      must update the PROTOCOL.INI file with the wired card's
      IOBase address. Note that many vendors use different
      terms for IOBase address, such as "adapter-address" or
      "card-address".
      You must use the vendor's terminology for referring
      to the IO-address of the wired card.

  3.) PCMCIA adapters:
      if you are using a WaveLAN PCMCIA adapter, you may need
      to adapt CONFIG.SYS to match the correct settings of
      this card. The default CONFIG.SYS used when creating the
      environment diskettes contains a line for the WaveLAN
      enabler:
         device = enabler.sys /i=11 /m=d000 /b=300
      See the WaveLAN PCMCIA Installation guide for the
      required settings.

===============================================================
Added Functionality release wp3.00:
===============================================================

1.Roaming functionality
      See WavePOINT Installation and Operation Guide:
      ST-2124-04. guide for this. This function will only work
      with WaveLAN PCMCIA cards.

2.Reload improvement
      If the reload of the WavePOINT fails, the unit will go
      back into normal operational mode after timeout (= 3 min)
      using the old configuration and code.

===============================================================
Functional Problems solved in release wp3.00:
===============================================================

1.Description of Problem
      The Point-to-Point Diagnostics program does not detect
      whether the WaveLAN board is in use.
      If the board is in use by another driver errors can
      occur.
  Action
      Solved in wp3.00.

2.Description of Problem
      Reload triggers sometimes get lost on heavily loaded
      Ethernet networks (>20% utilisation).
  Action
	   Solved in wp3.00

===============================================================
Outstanding Functional Problems in release wp3.00:
===============================================================

1.Description of Problem
      WaveLAN utiltities do not run correctly in the WavePOINT
      Configurator environment.
  Impact
	   The WaveLAN utilties show unpredictable behavior in this
      environment.
  Action
      Use the Utilities boot diskette to start WaveLAN
      utilities.

2.Description of Problem
      The dynamic filter ageing timer is not yet implemented.
      Setting the "filter ageing time" parameter in the
      Configurator will have no effect.
  Impact
      Filter entries will not be aged, eventually this can lead
      to some pollution of the WavePOINT filter table, causing
      a small performance degradation (less than 1%).
      Furthermore, if the filter table is full it will be
      cleared.
  Action
      None.

3.Description of Problem
      Large SNMP output response messages (about 1540 bytes)
      are incorrectly identified as erroneous and dropped.
  Impact
      A request, via SNMP, for a response message which is
      about 1540 bytes will fail.
      Chances that a response message of this size is created
      are small.
  Action
      None.

4.Description of Problem
      The SNMP counters counting "UDP frames in error" and
      "ICMP frames in error" are not incremented.
  Impact
      These error counters are for the SNMP protocol stack
      itself. Errors in frames on this protocol refer to errors
      in SNMP transmissions itself.
  Action
      None.

5.Description of Problem
      When using Point-to-Point Diagnostics or the Access
      Control Table Manager the I/O address 3C0 (hex) can be
      selected for the WaveLAN card. This address may conflict
      with the EGA/VGA adapter.
  Impact
      On a workstation with a EGA/VGA adapter selecting IOBase
      address 3C0 (hex) may disable the display, i.e. the
      screen will go blank.
  Action
      Do not use 3C0 (hex) as an IOBase address unless you are
      sure the WaveLAN card is at this address and there is no
      conflict with the display adapter.

===============================================================
WavePOINT MIBs
===============================================================
This directory contains the MIB definitions needed to manage
the WavePOINT via SNMP. These MIB definitions have to be loaded
into your management station. Note, that your management
station may already have loaded the standard (RFC) MIBs.

WavePOINT supports the following MIBs:
        MIB II (RFC 1213) file: RFC1213.MIB
        Ethernet-like MIB (RFC 1398)      file: RFC1398.MIB
        Bridge MIB (RFC 1493) file: RFC1493.MIB
        WaveLAN MIB                       file: WAVELAN.MIB
        WavePOINT MIB                     file: WAVEPNT.MIB

(note: For the Bridge MIB also RFC 1286 can be used;
 for WavePOINT there is no difference)

The following OID tree specifies which objects of these
MIBs are supported, and to what extent, using the following
keys in column 1:
I =	Implemented as described in the MIB specification.
R =	Implemented as Read-only, where the MIB
	specification specifies read-write.
Z =	Implemented such that it always reads Zero or
	null (object not applicable).
N =	Not implemented.
