Power off the system, install the PCI-DA2100/DA2200 to a PCI slot (master PCI slot only). Power on the system again after the hardware installation completed. 2. Go to the "Control Panel " and select "Add/Remove Hardware". 3. Choose the "Add/Troubleshoot a device". Windows will now try detecting the devices installed in your system. 4. Choose "Add a new device" from the "Choose a hardware device" window, and choose "No, I want to select the hardware from a list". 5. In the "Hardware Type" window, choose "SCSI and RAID Controllers". 6. In the "Select a Device Driver" window, select the "Have Disk..." button. 7. Insert this driver diskette into the floppy drive. Provide "A:\WIN2000" to the directory dialog box and then press <ENTER>. (Where "A:" refers to the floppy drive letter) 8. Choose the "PCI-DA2000 Series RAID Miniport for Windows 2000" from menu. 9. Install the Driver During the Windows 2000 Installatation --------------------------------------------------------- * Using PCI-DA2100/DA2200 BIOS version 1.17B or newer BIOS, the controller will detect if the CD disc in the CD-ROM drive is a bootable CD when the system powered on. * Windows 2000 supports CD-ROM boot for installation. If the Windows 2000 CD is loaded in the CD-ROM drive, the system will boot from the CD-ROM drive and enter the Windows 2000 installation automatically. To avoid the system boot from CD-ROM, simply remove the bootable CD disc from the CD-ROM drive when power on the system. Install the Driver During Windows 2000 CD-ROM Boot Installation --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the Windows 2000 CD disc into the CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM drive should be connecting to an adapter which supports CD-ROM boot. If using IDE CD-ROM, the system BIOS should support CD-ROM boot. If using SCSI CD-ROM, connect the CD-ROM drive to a SCSI adapter supports CD-ROM boot (PCI-DA2100/DA2200 or other SCSI adapters support CD-ROM boot). * If the SCSI CD-ROM drive is connecting to PCI-DA2200 PCI RAID controller (Ultra2 wide SCSI), please refer to the PCI-2200 Instruction Manual for details of mixng Single-ended and LVD devices on the same SCSI bus. 2. Reboot the system. When the system starts to boot from CD-ROM, press and hold <F6> key on the keyboard until the "Windows 2000 Setup" screen appears. PCI-2101U/2101U2 is a high performance PCI RAID controller with Write-Back cache enabled. During the installation of some operating systems, the installation program might reset the computer automatically while the cache still contains data not yet written to the drives. It might cause the installation or partitioning failure. To avoid the failure, always switch the cache mode to Write-Back DISABLED (Write- Through mode) before changing the drive partition (e.g. using DOS FDISK) and before installing any operating systems. B. HOW TO CHANGE CACHE MODE TO WRITE-BACK DISABLED? Using BIOS Text RAID Manager (PC platform only) to disable the Write-Back Cache. Power on the computer, press <CTRL><I> when the Infortrend information appears. Choose "Configure RAID" from the menu and press <Enter> to enter a proper display mode (either ANSI, VT-100 or ANSI Color). In the Main Menu, choose "View and Edit Configuration Parameters", then "Caching Parameters". A sub-menu contains "Write Back Cache Enabled/Disabled" which refers to the Write Back mode is Enabled or Disabled. Press <ENTER> on it and choose "Yes" to change it. After the cache mode changed, it is a must to reset the computer to take affect the new setting. After the driver partitioning and operating system installed, using the same procedure to enable the Write Back cache, the high performance Write Back Caching will bring your system into a higher performance level. ******************** Support Information ************************ If you have any technical questions regarding to your RAID system, please contact your RAID system supplier first, they will provide the latest information and sincere support.
