DA2000.INF - INF file for driver installation
* This current driver version supports Windows 95 and Windows 98.
Install Driver to an Existing Windows 95/Windows 98 System
----------------------------------------------------------
1. Follow the instructions in Windows 95/98 installation
documentation to install Windows 95/98.
2. When Windows 95/98 installation is complete, restart Windows 95/98.
3. Click on the "Start" button on the task bar of Windows 95/98.
4. Select "Settings", and then click on "Control Panel".
5. Double-click on the "System" icon, then click on "Device Manager"
tab.
6. Click on the plus sign next to the "Other devices" icon, then
double-click on the yellow question mark labelled "PCI SCSI Bus
Controller" icon, then click on the "Driver" tab.
7. In the Driver tab, click on "Change Driver". When asked to select
the hardware type, select "SCSI Controllers".
8. Click on the "Have Disk..." button and enter "A:\WIN95" (where
"A:" refers to the drive letter of the floppy drive) as the
subdirectory to copy the manufacturer's file from. Insert this
diskette into the floppy drive and click on "OK".
9. Select "PCI-DA2000 PCI-to-SCSI RAID Adapter", and click
on "OK".
10. Click on "OK". The driver is now copied.
11. You must restart your system for the changes to take effect. Click
on "Yes" to shutdown the system and restart your computer.
12. When the system is booting up, an "Unknown Device" warning window
will be displayed, this is a normal behavior because a virtual target
is registered by PCI-DA2100/DA2200 Miniport Driver to support
GUI RAID Manager. Please select "Do not install a driver",
and click on "OK". Don't be alarmed by this message. It is perfectly
normal to see this message when using the PCI-DA2100/DA2200 under
Windows 95/98.
13. Make sure that the PCI-DA2100/DA2200 Miniport Driver is working
properly by using Device Manager tab of System icon in Control Panel.
Click on the plus sign next to the SCSI controllers icon, and
double-click on the PCI-DA2100/DA2200 PCI-to-SCSI RAID Adapter
icon. Check the Device status. If the device is working properly,
the driver is installed successfully. If not, the driver is not
installed. Check your CONFIG.SYS to see if PCI2000.SYS is installed.
If it is installed, remove it, and restart your computer.
** Important **
A. ALWAYS CHANGE THE CACHE TO WRITE-BACK DISABLED BEFORE INSTALLING
OPERATING SYSTEMS AND PARTITIONING.
PCI-DA2100/DA2200 is a high performance PCI RAID controller
with Write-Back cache enabled. During the installation of
some operating systems, the installation program might reset
the computer automatically while the cache still contains
data not yet written to the drives. It might cause the
installation or partitioning failure. To avoid the failure,
always switch the cache mode to Write-Back DISABLED (Write-
Through mode) before changing the drive partition (e.g. using
DOS FDISK) and before installing any operating systems.
B. HOW TO CHANGE CACHE MODE TO WRITE-BACK DISABLED?
Using BIOS Text RAID Manager (PC platform only) to disable
the Write-Back Cache. Power on the computer, press <CTRL><I>
when the PCI-DA2100/DA2200 information appears. Choose "Configure
RAID" from the menu and press <Enter> to enter a proper
display mode (either ANSI, VT-100 or ANSI Color). In the
Main Menu, choose "View and Edit Configuration Parameters",
then "Caching Parameters". A sub-menu contains "Write Back
Cache Enabled/Disabled" which refers to the Write Back mode
is Enabled or Disabled. Press <ENTER> on it and choose "Yes"
to change it. After the cache mode changed, it is a must to
reset the computer to take affect the new setting.
After the driver partitioning and operating system installed,
using the same procedure to enable the Write Back cache, the
high performance Write Back Caching will bring your system
into a higher performance level.
