Xircom Modem Installation Instructions for a Generic Windows 98 environment

 1.  Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties'.

 2.  From the 'System Properties' window, select the 'Device Manager' tab.   

 3.  Select the "PCI Serial Controller" found under 'Other' devices and click 
     the 'Properties' button.

 4.  At the 'PCI Serial Controller Properties' window select the 'Driver' tab 
     and click the 'Update Driver' button.

 5.  At the 'Update Device Driver Wizard' window click 'Next'.

 6.  At the following window select "Display a list of all the drivers..." and
     click 'Next'.

 7.  At the next window, select "Modem" from the list and click 'Next'.

 8.  At the following window, make sure the Application and Driver CD is inserted in
     your CD-ROM drive and click the 'Have Disk' button.

 9.  At the 'Install from Disk' window enter the following path:
	C:\NECApps\Xircom\modem
     
     and click 'OK'.

10.  At the next window highlight "Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal" and 
     click 'Next'.

11.  At the following window, click 'Next'.

12.  At the following window click 'Finish'.

13.  Close the 'Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal Properties' window.

14.  Close the 'System Properties' window.

15.  Setup is complete.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
