2. OVERVIEW
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The PARTNER Messaging Release 7.0 System Administration software can
ONLY be used to administer a PARTNER Messaging Release 7.0 System.
The software will not work with a previous release of the PARTNER
Messaging System.

PARTNER Messaging Administration requires an IBM PC-compatible with the
following hardware and software:

a) A Pentium ® 100 MHz or faster processor (A 200 MHz or faster
processor is recommended.)

b) A minimum of 32 MB of RAM for Microsoft Windows NT ® 4.0 Server
or Workstation, a minimum of 16 MB of RAM for Microsoft
Windows ® 98 or Microsoft Windows 95, a minimum of 64 MB of RAM
for Microsoft Windows ® 2000 Workstation (128 MB is recommended).

c) Windows ® 95, 98, NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4 (or later), or
2000 Workstation.

d) 10 MB of hard disk space to install the application on your PC.
However, you will need more space to back up the PARTNER Messaging
system. Depending on the configuration of your PARTNER Messaging
system, the backup size can range anywhere from few megabytes to
few hundred megabytes.

e) A network interface card with an RJ-45 connector. If your PARTNER
Messaging system is connected to your company’s local area network
(LAN), your PC must be connected to the LAN and you must have an
account on your company’s LAN. If your PARTNER Messaging system is not
connected to your company’s LAN, you will need a 10 Base-T crossover
cable to connect your PC directly to the PARTNER Messaging system.

f) A Windows-compatible VGA monitor supporting at least 256 colors
and 800 x 600 pixel screen resolution.

g) A Windows-compatible pointing device (for example, a mouse).

h) A Windows-compatible multimedia sound card and speakers to listen
to announcements. The sound card must be capable of playing and
recording audio files in the Microsoft WAVE format.

i) A microphone to record announcements.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
3. REMOVING THE PARTNER MESSAGING SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION SOFTWARE
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If desired, the PARTNER Messaging System Administration software
can be removed from your PC's hard disk using the "UnInstaller
for System Administration" program link placed in the
"Release 6.0 PARTNER Messaging" program group/application folder.
You may choose to remove the files and program icons manually but
there are many components to remove.

Note: Uninstalling the software does not remove PARTNER Messaging
backup(s) you may have created on the PC.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. INSTALLATION DIRECTORY ORGANIZATION
----------------------------------------------------------------------

By default, the PARTNER Messaging Release 7.0 System Administration
installation software installs the application in
"C:\Program Files\PARTNER Messaging Release 7.0\System Administration"
folder. However, during installation, you may choose to change the
default installation directory.

As part of the installation procedure, a folder named "Backups" is
created in the installation directory. This folder is used as the
default backup location for PARTNER Messaging backups you may create
via the software.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. CONNECTING TO THE PARTNER MESSAGING SYSTEM
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you can log into the PARTNER Messaging system, you must
determine how your PC running the PARTNER Messaging Administration will
connect to the PARTNER Messaging system. The PC can connect to the
PARTNER Messaging system in either of the following ways:

a) From an account on your company’s LAN

b) Directly via a 10 Base-T crossover cable

5.1. Connecting to the PARTNER Messaging System via a LAN
--------------------------------------------------------

To connect to the PARTNER Messaging system from your company’s LAN,
the PARTNER Messaging system must be connected to the LAN. To connect
the PARTNER Messaging system to the LAN, you will need:

a) a 10 Base-T cable with an RJ-45 connector that is connected to your
company’s LAN

b) an available IP address on your company’s LAN that you will assign
to the PARTNER Messaging system

c) a PC with an RS-232 cable that you can connect to the PARTNER
Messaging system and set the IP address for the PARTNER Messaging
system.

To connect the PARTNER Messaging system to the LAN:

1) Change the default LAN address of the PARTNER Messaging system to an
available IP address on your company’s LAN. (See Instructions in
Section 5.3.)

2) Connect the 10 Base-T cable from your company’s LAN to the RJ-45
connector on the PARTNER Messaging system.

5.2. Connecting Directly to the PARTNER Messaging System via a
10 Base-T Crossover Cable
-------------------------------------------------------------

To connect a PC directly to the PARTNER Messaging system, you will
need:

a) a 10 Base-T crossover cable with an RJ-45 connector to connect the
PC running PARTNER Messaging Administration to the PARTNER Messaging
system.

b) the IP addresses of the PARTNER Messaging system and the PC running
PARTNER Messaging Administration to be in the same IP domain.

Note: You can either change the default IP address of the PARTNER
Messaging system to be in the same IP domain as the PC, or change the
IP address of the PC to be in the same IP domain as the PARTNER
Messaging system. Follow the instructions in Section 5.2.1 or 5.2.2
for more information.

c) Once the PC and PARTNER Messaging system IP addresses are in the
same domain, connect one end of the 10 Base-T crossover cable to the
network interface card on the PC running PARTNER Messaging
Administration. Connect the other end of the 10 Base-T crossover cable
to the RJ-45 connector on the PARTNER Messaging system.

5.2.1. Changing your PC's IP Address
------------------------------------

If you choose to change your PC's IP address and leave in place the
PARTNER Messaging default IP address, the IP address you assign must
be in the same domain as the PARTNER Messaging default IP address
(10.0.0.42). For example, you may choose to change the PC's
IP address to 10.0.0.43. Follow the Windows IP address setup
instructions on how to change your PC's IP address.

5.2.2. Changing your PARTNER Messaging System IP Address
-------------------------------------------------------

If you want to keep the current IP address for the PC, you must change
the IP address for the PARTNER Messaging system to an address that
is in the same IP domain as the PC. For example, if the IP address of
the PC is 192.17.127.70, set the IP address of the PARTNER Messaging
system to 192.17.127.71.

Follow instructions in Section 5.3 on how to the IP address of the
PARTNER Messaging system.
