This README.TXT covers information that was not yet known
or available when the user documentation shipped with this
release was written. This text file includes update
information, additional installation instructions,
limitations to the current version of the product, and
suggestions to solve known issues or problems.

1. SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION
1.1 Description
This software is officially released and supported
software of Avaya Inc.
The Outdoor Router Client software consists of:
1. Communications Quality Indicator (CQI)
This is a diagnostic tool that you can use to
verify the quality of your wireless radio connection
to the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router network.
The CQI tool can be installed on any computer
running the MS-Windows 95, 98 or NT version 4.0
operating system.
2. A set of PC Card drivers, for use on any computer
running the MS-Windows 95, 98 or NT version 4.0
operating system.
The software supports the Avaya Wireless IEEE 11 Mbit PC
Cards.
Note 1: This software does NOT support the following PC
Cards:
* WaveLAN/IEEE Turbo 8 Mbit PC Cards
* WaveLAN/IEEE 2 Mbit PC Cards
* pre-IEEE WaveLAN PC Cards
* External Antenna Module 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz
Note 2: Check the website HTTP://support.AVAYA.COM for
new releases.
1.2 Software Components
The software for Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client
software comprises the following components:
* Communication Quality Indicator (CQI);
* PC Card Drivers.
The Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client software is
described in the on-line Help files (see also
Section 4 of this readme file 'Installation
Notes').
1.3 Software Versions
The following software will be installed in the
directory specified during setup:
Name: CQI variant 3, version 3.1.67

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Operating System
The software and/or drivers provided with this release
can be installed on the operating systems Windows 95,
Windows 98 and Windows NT version 4.0.
2.2 Free Disk Space
To install and run the software you will need 4 MByte
of free disk space.
2.3 RAM
8 MByte of RAM is required (16 MByte or more recommended).
2.4 Processor
A 80486 or faster processor is required.

3. NEW IN THIS RELEASE
3.1 Version 1.40
Initial version of the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client
software.

4. INSTALLATION NOTES
4.1 Installation procedure
For your convenience, this paragraph summarizes the
actions that need to be performed to install the
Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client software.
1) Download the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client
software. The software can be downloaded as a
self-extracting ZIP file.
2) Run the self-extracting ZIP file. Chooce to
install the software in a temporary directory,
for example:
C:\TEMP
3) Setup the CQI software, by double clicking the
following file:
C:\TEMP\CQI\setup.exe
Make sure, to use the same directory as specified
in step 2.
Now, a warning dialog is shown, stating that
the Driver installation must be performed by
inserting the PC Card in your computer.
This step should NOT be performed when installing
the drivers for NT.
For Windows 95/98 proceed as follows:
4) Insert your PC Card into your computer. Windows
will ask for drivers. The drivers are located in
directory:
C:\TEMP\Drivers
For Windows NT Version 4.0 proceed as follows:
5) Install the PC Card Drivers WITHOUT the PC Card
inserted in your PC. The details for this
installation can be found in the "IEEE 802.11
WaveLAN PC Card User's Guide", chapter 3.
After installation, shutdown your PC. Insert
the PC Card and restart the computer.
Finally, for each operating system:
6) Update the Firmware of your PC Card to the latest
version that can be found on http://www.avaya.com/
4.2 Files Installed
The CQI installation wizard will automatically install the
program files in the following directory on the hard
disk of your computer:
C:\Program Files\Avaya_Wireless\CQI\CQI
Optionally you may choose to select another folder or
hard disk drive for installation of the CQI software.
The following files will be installed in the specified
directory:
* CQI.EXE
* M_PHONE.ICL
* MODEM.ICL
* S_DISC.ICL
* S_SMILEY.ICL
* STATUS.ICL
* README.TXT
Together with the Avaya Wireless CQI software, the installation
wizard will install the Avaya Wireless CQI help system that
provides context-sensitive and task-oriented help for
the CQI.
The help files will be installed in the following
directory (Windows 95/98):
C:\Windows\help\Avaya_Wireless\cqi
or in the following directory (Windows NT version 4.0):
C:\WinNT\help\Avaya_Wireless\cqi
The Avaya Wireless CQI help system is in HTML format.
To view the help screens you will need to have an
internet browser installed, such as:
* The Microsoft Internet Explorer (v4.0 or higher)
* The Netscape Navigator (v4.0 or higher)
Alternatively, you may choose to use another type of
browser, but it will depend on the supported features
of such browsers whether the help files will display
correctly.
4.3 Uninstalling the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client CQI software
To uninstall the CQI software proceed as follows:
1) Click the "Start" button on your Windows task bar,
point to "Settings" and select "Control Panel".
2) In the Control Panel window, double-click the
"Add/Remove" icon to display the "Add/Remove
Program Properties" window.
3) Scroll down the list of applications in the
lower section of the "Install/Uninstall" tab, and
select the item Avaya Wireless CQI
4) Next click the "Add/Remove" button, and follow the
instructions on your screen.
4.4 Reinstalling Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client Drivers
When the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client Drivers have to be
installed, proceed as follows.
1) Windows 95
First, deinstall the old drivers.
1. Click "Start-Settings-Control Panel"
2. Double-click "system".
3. Select Tab "Device Manager"
4. Open the "Ethernet adapter" folder.
5. Select the "Avaya Wireless PC Card" or
"WaveLAN PC Card" entry.
6. Use the "Remove" button.
Then install the drivers as usual.
2) Windows 98 and NT version 4.0.
Use the "Update" possibility of the driver.
1. Click "Start-Settings-Control Panel"
2. Double-click "system".
3. Select Tab "Device Manager"
4. Open the "Ethernet adapter" folder.
5. Select the "Avaya Wireless PC Card" or
"WaveLAN PC Card" entry.
6. Use the "Update Driver" button.

5. TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS
At the time of release of this software, the following
problems remain to be solved:
5.1 None.

6. KNOWN ISSUES
At the time of release of this software, the following
problems remain to be solved:
6.1 Support for Windows 2000.
Description: This version of the Outdoor Router Client
software does not support Windows 2000.
Impact: Medium.
Action: Next release will support Windows 2000.
6.2 Support for Network IDs 8 to 15.
Description: The PC Card Driver setting "Network ID"
has a valid range of 0 to 15. However,
this release only supports Network IDs
in the range 0 to 7.
Impact: Minor.
Action: Next release will support Network IDs in
the full range of 0 to 15.
6.3 No connection to Central Outdoor Router
Description: When a dial-up connection is available,
the Outdoor Router Client software is not
able to connect to a Central Outdoor
Router after power-up of the PC.
This is a bug in Windows 95 only.
Impact: Minor.
Action: Reinsert your PC Card, after power-up
of your PC.
Action: Disable the Dial-up connection. Use:
1. Click "Start-Settings-Control Panel"
2. Double-click "system".
3. Select Tab "Device Manager"
4. Open the "Network Adapter" folder.
5. Show properties of the Dial-Up
Connection.
6. Check the option "Disable".
7. Apply the changes.
6.4 License key not valid
Description: The license key is entered correctly, the
tools still indicate that License
Key that was entered is not valid.
Impact: Minor.
Action: Make sure that the dashed (the '-'
characters) are entered as part of the
license key.
6.5 Unexpected termination of the CQI tool
Description: When the CQI tool is active (indicated by
the satellite icon in the Windows menu),
the application can be ended by pressing
the ESC key.
Impact: Minor.
Action: Make sure not to press the ESC key, when
the last application window that was shown
belonged to the CQI.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
