This README.TXT covers information that was not yet known 
or available when the user documentation shipped with this 
release was written. This text file includes update
information, additional installation instructions,
limitations to the current version of the product, and
suggestions to solve known issues or problems.

1.  SOFTWARE DESCRIPTION

1.1 Description

    This software is officially released and supported 
    software of Avaya Inc.

    The Outdoor Router Client software consists of:
    1. Communications Quality Indicator (CQI)
       This is a diagnostic tool that you can use to
       verify the quality of your wireless radio connection
       to the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router network.
       The CQI tool can be installed on any computer 
       running the MS-Windows 2000 (SP1) operating system.
    2. A set of PC Card drivers, for use on any computer 
       running the MS-Windows 2000 (SP1) operating system.

    The software supports the Avaya Wireless IEEE 11 Mbit PC
    Cards. 

    Note 1: This software does NOT support the following PC
            Cards:
            * WaveLAN/IEEE Turbo 8 Mbit PC Cards
            * WaveLAN/IEEE 2 Mbit PC Cards
            * pre-IEEE WaveLAN PC Cards
            * External Antenna Module 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz

    Note 2: Check the website HTTP://support.AVAYA.COM for
            new releases.
   
1.2 Software Components

    The software for Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client
    comprises the following components:
     * Communication Quality Indicator (CQI);
     * PC Card Drivers.

    The Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client software is
    described in the on-line Help files (see also
    Section 4 of this readme file 'Installation
    Notes').

1.3 Software Versions
    The following software will be installed in the 
    directory specified during setup:
   
    Name: CQI            variant 3, version 1.67
    Name: Drivers        variant 1, version 6.00

2.  SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Operating System
    The software and/or drivers provided with this release
    can be installed on the operating systems Windows 2000.

2.2 Free Disk Space
    To install and run the software you will need 4 MByte
    of free disk space.

2.3 RAM 
    8 MByte of RAM is required (16 MByte or more 
    recommended).

2.4 Processor
    A Pentium or faster processor is required.

3.  NEW IN THIS RELEASE

3.1 Version 2.10 
    
    Initial version of the Avaya Wireless Outdoor Router Client
    software for Windows 2000.

4.  INSTALLATION NOTES

4.1 Installation procedure Installing (Avaya Wireless) PC Card 
    adapter for Microsoft© Windows2000: 

    IMPORTANT: 
    ==========
    Do NOT Upgrade from Windows98 or WindowsNT4 with an 
    existing CQI and ORC-client, it will not work. 
    You will have to REMOVE the (Avaya Wireless) PC Card 
    Hardware out of the PC system motherboard and de-install 
    the Avaya Wireless software with the existing CQI. 

    Otherwise Windows2000 will crash or never startup (or 
    shutdown) again. The Win2k Partition will be dismounted.
 
    WORKAROUND: 
    ============
    Use the Windows2000 bootable CD, recover the installation 
    with the recovery-console and type at the Command Prompt, 
    where (C:) is the system - partition of your existing 
    Windows2000 installation:

     C:\CHKDSK C: /F/X /R /I /C        and press [ENTER]
     
     C:\FIXBOOT         and press [ENTER]
 
     C:\FIXMBR         and press [ENTER]
     
     C:\EXIT
 
     Press [F3] (reboot)
           ==================//===================

    Laptop Systems:  
    ===============
    DO NOT PAY ATTENTION AT POINT 5), This is for Desktop 
    Systems. 
    
 
    1.  Install or when you have already installed MS© 
        Windows2000 

    2.  Finish the installation (with or) without the 
        PC Card and Reboot! 

        REMARK: This is for the PC-card holder for Desktop 
        systems, NOT the Avaya Wireless PC Card for Laptop systems 
 
    3.  Now you will have to install Microsoft© Windows2000 
        ServicePack1 or ServicePack2, Reboot! & startup again. 
 
    4.  Install the Avaya Wireless CQI (Communications Quality 
        Indicator) and install directly after CQI the drivers 
        ORC_2000, confirm both, 
        and for the best results; reboot your PC. 

    5.  For Desktop systems: 
        ====================
        Open your PC-housing and remove a PCI-screw to install 
        a Avaya Wireless PCI-card (PC-card holder) without a Avaya
	Wireless PC-card (pcmcia-card) in a PCI-bridge on your
        PC motherboard, reboot, when started up, the Microsoft©
        Hardware Management Console will now contain the PCMCIA
        Controller.

    6.  For Laptop AND Desktop systems: 
        ===============================
        Insert your PC-card into the PC-card Holder (PCMCIA-slot), 
        when inserted, startup your PC.
 
    7.  When Microsoft© Windows2000 Graphical User Interface  
        will start up, the system will detect new hardware and 
        the drivers will automatically load, a window with... 

            [ "Avaya Wireless PC-Card" ] 

        when this will appear, 
        wait a few seconds and a window with: 

            [ "Avaya Wireless PC-card" ]

        will pop up. Press [ENTER] or [YES] to agree, 
        and the PC-card drivers will load. 

 
    9.  In the next window choose the 5Volt Card, 
        if you have a intergrated card (in i.e. Laptop systems), 
        choose the button [Other Devices] and you can choose an 
        other option PC-card version, like i.e. NEC 3,5 - 5Volt 
        or a Avaya Wireless 3,5 - 5Volt, within the Avaya Wireless-group. 

 
    10. If confirmed the driver want you to fill in a 
        appropriate:

      a) Avaya Wireless License key, -> 
         (Fill this in like:	2E-47-96-2D-8B-04-F2-17-32-A6 )
      b) Pass phrase (default=public), 
      c) Encryption key (if needed!),
      d) Transfer Rate (0=highest). 

    You can configure this also by clicking the "OR Client", 
    a PC-card icon in the Control Panel. 

 
11. For the best result you will have to Reboot the Computer. 

    (Do not to forget to configure an appropriate IP-address 
    and Subnet-Mask binded to the Avaya Wireless 
    PC-card, otherwise you won't have an "Network Neighborhood"
     / "My Network Places" environment.)

4.2 Additional Installation Notes

    The OR Client NDIS 5 Miniport Driver in this package 
    has been proven to work with Windows 2000 Build 2195 
    (RTM). The software in this package can be installed 
    either before or after the uninstall of an already 
    present driver.

    Note: When this driver has been installed an update 
    to the latest firmware version becomes mandatory. 
    You can find the latest firmware on the Avaya Wireless
    Web Site.

    If you have the Avaya Wireless driver installed that came 
    with the first official Windows 2000 release, you 
    need to do a uninstall and re-install.

    Uninstalling an installed Avaya Wireless driver.
    Note: In order to be able to do the Uninstall, 
    the Avaya Wireless card must be inserted in the machine.

    To uninstall an already installed Avaya Wireless driver, 
    do the following:
        1. on the Desktop, go to My Computer and click 
           the right mouse button,
        2. select properties
        3. in the next screen, select the Hardware tab,
	4. on the next screen, press the Device Manager 
           button,
	5. in the next screen, go to Network adapters and 
           select the '+',
        6. then select the Avaya Wireless and press the right 
           mouse button,
        7. finally select Uninstall...

After completion of the uninstall, remove the Avaya Wireless
PC-Card,and any Windows 2000 CD's that may be in your CD-ROM 
drive.

If you have installed version 7.x of the Avaya Wireless driver, 
you should also delete the 'WNLUC48.CPL' file from your 
%SYSTEMROOT%\system23\ directory.

After removing the radio card and Windows 2000 CD, run the 
W2k_ORC_Drivers.exe program. After running the setup program,
re-insert the radio card. The new driver will now be 
installed.

To configure the card, go to the control panel. There you 
will see a new icon, called "OR Client". Double clicking on 
this icon will bring up the configuration screen.

Note: When installing on Desktop PC's make sure to first 
      install support for the ISA-PCMCIA swap box (without 
      the Avaya Wireless card inserted). After successful 
      installation of support for the swap box, inserting 
      the Avaya Wireless card will start the installation process
      for it. In order to install the system supplied 
      drivers for the ISA-PCMCIA swapbox, you need to 
      manually run the hardware wizard and select "Add 
      a new device", select "from hardware list" and then
      choose PCMCIA adapters, then finally select the 
      "Intel PCIC or Compatible PCMCIA controller".

4.3 Files Installed

    The CQI installation wizard will automatically install the
    program files in the following directory on the hard 
    disk of your computer:
       C:\Program Files\Avaya_Wireless\CQI\CQI

    Optionally you may choose to select another folder or 
    hard disk drive for installation of the CQI software.

    The following files will be installed in the specified
    directory:

    *   CQI.EXE        
    *   M_PHONE.ICL
    *   MODEM.ICL		
    *   S_DISC.ICL
    *   S_SMILEY.ICL
    *   STATUS.ICL 
    *   README.TXT

    Together with the Avaya Wireless CQI software, the 
    installation wizard will install the Avaya Wireless CQI help 
    system that provides context-sensitive and task
    -oriented help for the CQI.

    The help files will be installed in the following 
    directory:

       C:\WINNT\Help\Avaya_Wireless\CQI


    The Avaya Wireless CQI help system is in HTML format. 
    To view the help screens you will need to have an 
    internet browser installed, such as:
    *  The Microsoft Internet Explorer (v4.0 or higher)
    *  The Netscape Navigator (v4.0 or higher)
    Alternatively, you may choose to use another type of
    browser, but it will depend on the supported features
    of such browsers whether the help files will display 
    correctly. 

    The ORC Driver Installation wizard will install the 
    following files:

    NDIS 5 Miniport driver for Windows 2000
	NETWV48.INF
	WVLAN48.SYS
	WVLAN.CPL

	
5.  TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS

    At the time of release of this software, the following 
    problems remain to be solved:

5.1 None.

6.  KNOWN ISSUES

    At the time of release of this software, the following 
    problems remain to be solved:

6.1 Support for Network IDs 8 to 15.

    Description: The PC Card Driver setting "Network ID"
                 has a valid range of 0 to 15. However,
                 this release only supports Network IDs
                 in the range 0 to 7.

    Impact:      Minor.

    Action:      Next release will support Network IDs in
                 the full range of 0 to 15.

6.2 License key not valid

    Description: The license key is entered correctly, the
                 tools still indicate that License
                 Key that was entered is not valid.

    Impact:      Minor.

    Action:      Make sure that the dashed (the '-'
                 characters) are entered as part of the
                 license key.

6.3 Unexpected termination of the CQI tool

    Description: When the CQI tool is active (indicated by
                 the satellite icon in the Windows menu),
                 the application can be ended by pressing
                 the ESC key.
 
    Impact:      Minor.

    Action:      Make sure not to press the ESC key, when
                 the last application window that was shown
                 belonged to the CQI.

6.4 Unable to upgrade firmware

    Desription:  It is not possible to upgrade the firmware 
                 with these drivers installed. 

    Impact:      Minor

    Action:      Use a station(laptop/PC) which has either
                 version 1.4 of the ORC software installed
                 or which has 802.11 station drivers 
                 installed, to upgrade the firmware.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
