1.  Installation

  

  Logitech SetPoint supports Windows(R) 98, Windows(R) Me

  Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP.

  Bluetooth devices are only supported in Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP.



1.1 Standard installation

  

  You must be logged on with administrative privileges to

  install. Insert the Logitech SetPoint Software CD into your CD-

  ROM drive.  The installation program should start

  automatically.  If it does not, browse the CD and double click

  on the file "SETUP.EXE", located in the root directory of the

  CD-ROM drive, to install the software.



1.2 Uninstall

  

  To uninstall the Logitech SetPoint Software from your system,

  click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Windows Control

  Panel, select "Logitech SetPoint" and click the "Remove"

  button.

  

  

2.   Troubleshooting - General Topics



2.1 "My Mouse”, “My Keyboard” tab don’t appear in the SetPoint Software

  

  If you have not used your mouse, keyboard, or MediaPad for some

  time, it goes to standby mode to conserve power.  Moving the

  mouse, or touching a key on the keyboard or MediaPad should

  cause the appropriate tab to re-appear.

  

  If the tabs still don't appear, right click on the SetPoint

  icon in the system tray and select Exit.  Then re-launch

  SetPoint from the Programs menu (Start ->

  Programs/Logitech/Mice and Keyboards/Settings).



2.2 Compatibility with Logitech MouseWare(R) and iTouch(R)



  This section is relevant to users who already used Logitech mouse 

  or keyboard device on their system and have installed MouseWare or iTouch

  software.



  If you are completely replacing your old devices with the new devices, 

  we recommend that you uninstall MouseWare or iTouch before installing SetPoint.



  If you are using one of your older devices and a new device on the same system, 

  please refer to the following sections to install SetPoint along with MouseWare

  and iTouch depending on your operating system.



  Your previous devices are only supported with MouseWare for the mouse and

  iTouch for the keyboard and will not appear in SetPoint control panel.

  Your new devices are only supported by SetPoint for both mice and keyboard.

  See section 2.4 for Cordless Click! or a Cordless Click! Plus mouse.



  Windows(R) 98 and Windows(R) Me:

 

  iTouch can not be used on the same system with SetPoint. iTouch is

  automatically disabled when SetPoint is installed and re-enabled when 

  SetPoint is uninstalled. If you install iTouch on a system after installing

  SetPoint,you may lose functionality until you uninstall iTouch.



  MouseWare can be used on the same system with SetPoint. However,

  you can not uninstall MouseWare as long as SetPoint is still installed.

  If you want to remove MouseWare, you have to uninstall SetPoint first 

  and re-install afterward. See section 2.3 for more information.



  Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP:



  iTouch and MouseWare can be used on the same system with SetPoint. However,

  for the devices connected on PS/2 you may lose enhanced functionality in

  the following situations:

 

  If your previous Logitech mouse or keyboard is connected on the PS/2 port,

  you will lose enhanced functions for this device after installing SetPoint.

  To restore the enhanced functions, reinstall MouseWare for the mouse or iTouch

  for the keyboard.



  If your new Logitech mouse or keyboard is connected on the PS/2 port,

  you may lose enhanced functions if you install MouseWare or iTouch after

  installing SetPoint. To restore the enhanced functions, reinstall SetPoint.



2.3 Support for Logitech's devices for Bluetooth. 

  If you are using Logitech's devices for Bluetooth, install SetPoint version 1.05 first

  and then upgrade to SetPoint version 2.12. If you install SetPoint version 2.12 only,

  you will not have Bluetooth functionality.



2.4 Cannot uninstall MouseWare after installing SetPoint on Windows(R) 98

  

  If you install SetPoint on a system with MouseWare installed,

  MouseWare cannot be uninstalled until you remove SetPoint.  To

  uninstall MouseWare, uninstall SetPoint first, then uninstall

  MouseWare, then re-install SetPoint.



2.5 Support for Cordless Click! Mice on Windows(R) 2000/Windows(R) XP



  For Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP users only:  If you were using Logitech MouseWare

  with a Cordless Click! or a Cordless Click! Plus mouse, installing SetPoint

  on top of MouseWare will transfer control of your mouse from MouseWare to SetPoint. 

  MouseWare will no longer recognize your mouse.  If you were only using one

  mouse with MouseWare, you can now uninstall MouseWare and use SetPoint.

  

2.6 Connection issues for cordless devices



  If your cordless device does not seem to respond, or exhibits

  erratic behavior, please try the following to resolve the issue:



  1) Check the batteries of your device.



     If your cordless device uses Alkaline batteries, try

     replacing them with new batteries.



     If you're using a Logitech rechargeable cordless mouse,

     confirm the batteries have a full charge.



     This will verify the issue is not occurring because of low

     or dead batteries.



  2) Check the receiver's connection to the system.  Check that

  the connector is clean, and that it's connected securely to the

  correct port.  If connected to switch-boxes, or hubs, try

  connecting the receiver directly to the system, to verify there's

  no interference from those devices.



  3) Try changing the location of the receiver.  Move it away

  from electrical devices that could cause interference with the

  radio signals, such as monitors, speakers, zip drives, etc.  Also

  avoid placing the receiver on metal surfaces that could interfere

  with the signal.



  4) Press the "connect" button on the receiver, then press the

  "connect" button on the device (normally located on the bottom).



  5) If these steps do not help resolve the issue, please refer

  to the Help Center installed with your Logitech software.  Or visit the

  Logitech web site (www.logitech.com) for the latest

  troubleshooting information.



2.7 Error message when entering standby in Windows(R) XP



  The following error message may appear when attempting to enter

  standby:

  "The device driver for the 'HID-Compliant ...' device is

  preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all

  applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may

  need to update this driver."  This message displays because

  your PC BIOS is not fully ACPI (Advanced Configuration and

  Power Interface) compliant.



  To avoid seeing this message again, follow these steps:



  1) Click on the "Start" button on the Windows Desktop.

  2) Select "Settings", then "Control Panel".

  3) From the Control Panel, double click on the "System" icon.

  4) From the System Properties, click on the "Hardware" tab.

  5) Click on the "Device Manager" button.

  6) From the Device Manager, double click the "Mouse" icon.

  7) Double click on the 'HID-Compliant ...' mouse icon.

  8) From the Mouse Properties dialog box, click on the

     "Power Management" tab.

  9) Clear the check box "Allow this device to bring the computer

     out from standby".



  Another solution is to update the BIOS of your PC. Please

  refer to the PC BIOS Manufacturer documentation for doing

  this.



2.8 No support for Input Method Editor (IME) in Keystroke

    Assignment



  The Keystroke Assignment function does not support the Input

  Method Editor (IME). It is therefore not possible to assign

  keystrokes that can be entered only through IME.



2.9 Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 6.0 is required for MediaLife and

   MusicMatch Radio for MediaLife



   You will not see the option to install MediaLife and MusicMatch Radio for MediaLife

   if Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 6.0 is not installed on your system.



2.10 QuickTour is not available on Windows(R) 98 Gold



  The QuickTour is not supported on Windows(R) 98 Gold.

  Please refer to the Help Center instead.



2.11 Applications installed after installing SetPoint



  If the applications such as the Media Players or the Messenger services are 

  installed after installing the SetPoint software, they will not appear 

  in SetPoint until you exit SetPoint and re-launch. Follow these 

  steps to exit and re-launch SetPoint: 

  -  Right click on the SetPoint icon in the system tray and select Exit.

  -  Re-launch SetPoint from the Programs menu (Start ->Programs/Logitech/Mice and

  Keyboards/Settings).



2.12 Multimedia buttons (Play/Pause, Stop, Next, Previous, Seeking Forward/Backward)

  won't work in WinDVD 5.0 

 

  If you are using WinDVD 5.0 and the player panel is docked to the presentation window,

  Multimedia buttons won't work.You will have to undock the panel for the buttons to execute.



2.13 Zoom In/Out function is reversed in Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer



  The definition of Zoom In/Out is reversed in Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer. 

  If you try to Zoom In/Out with the keyboard/Mouse buttons, it will perform opposite function. 

  



3.   Troubleshooting - Mouse Topics



3.1 Detection issues with USB mice

  

  If your USB mouse is not detected properly or does not

  function, please use the following steps to troubleshoot the

  problem.

  

  Note: if you have a PS/2 mouse, you can install and use it to

  follow the procedure.  Otherwise, use the keyboard to navigate.

  

  1) Click the Start button or press Ctrl-Esc to bring up the

  Start menu, select "Settings", then "Control Panel".

  2) Select the System icon and press Enter to open the System

  Properties.

  3) From the System Properties, select the Device Manager tab.

  On Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP, select the Hardware tab, then

  press the Device Manager button.

  4) Under the Mouse section, there should be a mouse icon that

  states: "HID-compliant mouse".  On Windows(R) 98 or Windows(R) Me,

  you should also see another entry that states the name of your

  USB device.  If there is a yellow exclamation or red X mark on

  either of these entries, highlight it and press the Delete key

  to remove it.

  5) Once the problem entries have been removed, press the

  "Refresh" button and allow Windows to re-detect the mouse.  On

  Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) XP, select "Scan for Hardware Changes"

  from the Action menu.

  6) Look at the entries under the Mouse section again, verify

  that there are no errors reported.

  7) Power down the computer and restart Windows.  Test the USB

  device to see if it is now functional.

  

  Other USB troubleshooting tips:

  -  If you have problem getting the mouse to work on a hub, try

  connecting the mouse directly to the USB port on the system.

  -  Try a second USB mouse in the same port or try the USB mouse

  on a second system to verify it is working correctly.  If

  needed contact the vendor of your system to verify the USB

  ports are correctly enabled, or if updated drivers are

  available.

  -  Uninstall SetPoint and see if the USB mouse works with the

  native Microsoft(R) drivers provided on your Windows CD-ROM.

  -  You may also want to contact the vendor of your USB chipset

  for updated USB drivers.

  

3.2 Detection problems with PS/2 pointing devices

  

  If your mouse is connected to the mouse port and is not

  detected by the system, attempt the following step(s):

  

  1) Your mouse port might need to be enabled through the SETUP

  menu of your computer. You may also need to set the

  configuration for the internal pointing device to "Auto-

  Disable" or "Auto-Select" setting.  Please check your computer

  documentation regarding the SETUP menu.

  

  2) If you have a mouse with both serial and mouse port

  adapters, connect the mouse to the computer through the serial

  port.  Reboot and check if the mouse is detected properly.

  

  3) If adapter(s) were not included in your package, your mouse

  was designed to work on only one type of port (Serial OR PS/2).

  Refer to your package for the type of port your mouse supports.

  

  4) If the system also has a USB mouse attached and the PS/2

  mouse is not correctly detected by SetPoint, either try

  unplugging the USB mouse or try turning off USB legacy support

  in the BIOS to see if that resolves the issue.

  

  Please consult the documentation provided with your computer on

  how to change BIOS settings.

  

  If the problem persists, please check for a possible computer

  BIOS ROM upgrade from your computer manufacturer.

  

  Some notebook systems have both an external Mouse Port and an

  integrated Pointing Stick, which is connected to the Mouse

  Port.  If your mouse is having difficulty running on the Mouse

  Port of this type of system, try using the USB port instead.

  

3.3 Cannot select applications to be included in Application

    Specific Settings

  

  Application Specific Settings are only applicable to Microsoft(R)

  Word, Microsoft(R) PowerPoint, Microsoft(R) Outlook(R) and Outlook(R) Express.

  You cannot add other applications or change the behavior of the settings.

  

3.4 Application Specific Settings option is disabled

  

  If you change the default button assignment for the Back and/or

  Forward buttons, the Application Specific Settings are disabled

  because you have chosen to override them.  To re-enable the

  Application Specific Settings, click the Restore Defaults

  button.

  

3.5 No Smart Move feature on Windows(R) 98

  

  This feature is only available on Windows(R) XP, Windows(R) 2000 and Windows(R) Me.



3.6 V500 Cordless Mouse loses connection.



  If your V500 Cordless Mouses gets disconnected, go to www.logitech.com/receiver-readme

  to download the reconnection utility.Run the executable file and press the reset 

  button on the bottom of the mouse.

  

4.   Troubleshooting - Keyboard Topics



4.1 The Play/Pause keys don't work on Windows(R) 2000

  

  You need to install the Windows(R) 2000 Service Pack 2 or higher.



4.2 Double on-screen key effects superimposed on each other

  

  This can happen on computers that already have other multimedia

  keyboard software installed. To correct this, you could either disable the 

  On Screen Display in SetPoint or uninstall the other keyboard software 

  using the Add/Remove Programs feature in the Windows Control Panel.



4.3 Seeking forward/backward functions on keyboard



  On Windows(R) 98 and Windows(R) Me, the seeking forward/backward functions

  do not work in Windows Media Player 9. These functions also do not 

  work if the media file you are playing does not support such functionality.



4.4 Eject key does not load the CD/DVD drive on a Laptop

  You will not be able to load the CD/DVD drive of your Laptop with the eject key.



4.5 Eject key will not load the CD/DVD drive in Windows(R) 98 and Windows(R) Me.

  Load Drive functionality is not available in Windows(R) 98 and Windows(R) Me.



4.6 Yahoo!(R) Messenger less than 6.0 is not supported

  If you are using Yahoo Messenger and the version is less than 6.0, the status key

  on the keyboard will not function.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
