ATTENTION WINDOWS XP USERS (December 20, 2001)
This is a Beta release of the Version 2.0 USB driver for the DPX series
of cable modems manufactured by Scientific-Atlanta, Inc.  This software is in
the process of being certified by Windows Home Quality Lab (WHQL).

Until it is certified by WHQL, should you see a Hardware Installation warning window
during the installation of the driver informing you that this software "has not passed
Windows Logo testing to verify compatibility with Windows XP", select the option
"Continue Anyway" to complete the installation.

for the Windows approved driver and subsequent updates.

Installation:
-------------
Installing the NDIS5 Miniport driver on Microsoft Windows 98(SE) or ME or 2000 or XP

1. Plug USB cable into modem and into one of the computer USB ports.
2. Plug in the modem power adapter and make sure that the modem POWER indicator is lit.
3. Turn the computer power ON to start Windows.
4. When Windows prompts with "USB Composite Device" in the
   "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the "Next" button.
5. Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
   from the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the
   "Next" button.
6. Insert the CD in your CD ROM: of your PC.
7. Select "Specify a location" and type Path "CD ROM:\" in the
   "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the "Next" button.
8. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
9. Windows will prompt with "WebSTAR DPX USB Cable Modem Adapter"
   in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
10. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    Windows will copy the driver (WebSTAR.sys) from CD ROM:\
    to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and the WebSTAR.INF file from CD ROM:\
    to the C:\WINDOWS\INF\OTHER directory.
11. When Windows prompts with "WebSTAR DPX USB Cable Modem Adapter"
    in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the "Finish" button.
12. Remove the USB CD from your CD ROM.
13. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

Uninstallation:
-------------
Uninstalling the NDIS5 Miniport driver on Microsoft Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP

1. Unplug USB cable from USB port on computer or cable modem.
2. Click " Start " button, then " Settings ", then click " Control Panel ".
3. Select " Add/Remove Programs " in Control Panel, then under " Install/Uninstall " tab, select 'WebSTAR DPX USB Cable Modem Adapter'
   for uninstallation.


The driver (WebSTAR.sys) conforms to the Network Driver Interface
Specification (NDIS) 5.0, and is used with Microsoft Windows 98/98SE/ME,
or Windows 2000/XP (NT 5.0).

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
