IBM TrackPoint Software for Windows 2000/XP
Driver Versions: 2.16 and higher.

TrackPoint Driver Installation on Windows XP
==============================================

 1. Start Windows 2000/XP.
 2. Logon as "Administrator".
 3. Double-click the "My Computer" icon.
 4. Open the "Control Panel" folder. 
 5. Open the "System" control panel.
 5. Click the "Hardware" tab.
 6. Click "Device Manager..."
 7. Double-click on "Mice and other pointing devices."
 8. Double-click on PS/2 mouse entry. Normally, the entry is named
    "PS/2 Compatible Mouse", "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse" or "Standard PS/2 Mouse"
    or "IBM PS/2 TrackPoint".
 9. Click on the "Driver" tab.
10. Click "Update Driver..."
11. Under the question "What do you want the wizard to do?"
    Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
12. Click "Next".
13. Select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install."
14. Click "Next".
15. Click "Have Disk..."
16. Enter the path of the Windows 2000/XP TrackPoint driver.
    The installation file for the TrackPoint Windows 2000\XP
    driver is tp4win2k.inf. In most cases this will be a:\win2k.

    MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ENTER THE PATH OF THE REGULAR
    (Windows NT 4.0/Windows 95/Windows 98) DRIVER!!!!

17. Click Next.
18. Select IBM PS/2 TrackPoint, Click "Next".
19. Click "Next".
20. A "Hardware Installation" dialog may appear, Click "Continue Anyway".

    At this time, Windows copies the TrackPoint driver files from the
    install disk to the system.

21. Click "Finish" to close the wizard, then click the "Close" button.
22. A "System Settings Changed" message should appear. Select "Yes"
    to restart the computer. If you don't see this message, restart
    your computer by selecting "Shutdown" from the "Start Menu".


TrackPoint Driver Installation on Windows 2000

 1. Start Windows 2000/XP.
 2. Logon as "Administrator".

12. Under the question "What do you want the wizard to do?"
    Click "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I
    can choose a specific driver"
13. Click "Next".
14. Wait for all hard disk activity to stop.
15. Click "Have Disk..."
16. Enter the path of the Windows 2000/XP TrackPoint driver.
    The installation file for the TrackPoint Windows 2000\XP
    driver is tp4win2k.inf. In most cases this will be a:\win2k.

17. Click OK.
18. Select IBM PS/2 TrackPoint, Click "Next".
19. Click "Next".
20. A "Confirm Device Install" message appears, Click "Yes" to
    continue the installation.
21. A "Digital Signature Not Found" message appears, Click "Yes".
    At this time, Windows copies the TrackPoint driver files from the
    install disk to the system.
22. Click "Finish" to close the wizard, then click the "Close" button.
23. A "System Settings Changed" message should appear. Select "Yes"
    to restart the computer. If you don't see this message, restart
    your computer by selecting "Shutdown" from the "Start Menu".


Uninstallation for Windows 2000/XP
==================================

 1. Start Windows 2000/Windows XP.
 2. Logon as "Administrator".
 3. On the Taskbar, click the Start button.
 4. Select Settings, Control Panel.
 5. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
 6. Select "IBM TrackPoint Support 2.0".
 7. Click "Change/Remove" to remove the TrackPoint software.
 8. When the "System Settings Change" dialog box appears, select
    "Yes" to reboot the system.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
