Version 3.1      Modem Drivers - Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2000 & NT 4.0

To take full advantage of using your modem with Microsoft Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000 and
Windows NT 4.0, it is recommended that you install the modem information file
provided with this archive. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to follow the Uninstall 
Procedure below to ensure that any previous NetComm drivers have been removed.

Section 1: Driver Uninstall Procedure for Windows 95
----------------------------------------------------
NOTE: If your system does not find a file during the multiple 
      uninstall steps, move onto the next point. Not all files will 
      be found on all systems.

1. Click on "Start"
2. Select "Find"
3. In the "Named" field type *.INF
4. In the "Look in" field type C:\WINDOWS\INF
5. Click on the "Advanced" tab and type AM3470 in the "Containing Text" field.
6. Click on "Find Now"
7. When it is finished, select each of the files found and press the "DEL" key 
   on your keyboard, and choose "OK" to delete them.

8. In the "Named" field type *.INF
9. Leave the "Look in" field as C:\WINDOWS\INF
10. Change the "Advanced" tab, "Containing Text" field to AM3400.
11. Click on "Find Now"
12. When it is finished, select each of the files found and press the "DEL" key 
    on your keyboard, and choose "OK" to delete them.


Section 2: Driver Uninstall Procedure for Windows 98
----------------------------------------------------

NOTE: If your system does not find a particular file during 
      uninstall, move onto the next point. Not all files will 
      be found on all systems.

1. Click on "Start"
2. Select "Find"
3. In the "Named" field type *.INF
4. in the "Containing text" filed type AM3470
5. In the "Look in" field type C:\WINDOWS\INF
6. Click on "Find Now"
7. When it is finished, select each of the files found and press the "DEL" key 
   on your keyboard, and choose "OK" to delete them.

8. In the "Named" field type MDM*.INF
9. Leave the "Look in" field as C:\WINDOWS\INF
10. Leave the "Advanced" tab, "Containing Text" field as AM3400.
11. Click on "Find Now"
12. When it is finished, select each of the files found and press the "DEL" key 
    on your keyboard, and choose "OK" to delete them.



Section 3: Driver Uninstall Procedure for Windows NT 4.0
--------------------------------------------------------
Use the method described in Section 1, but replace "C:WINDOWS\INF" in the "Look in" 
field with C:\WINNT\INF 


Section 4: Install for PnP modems (not NT 4.0)
----------------------------------------------

NOTE: If your system does not respond as shown during install, 
      move onto the next point. Not all computers will respond in
      the same fashion.

- Connect your modem as per the instructions supplied with it.
- Turn on your computer.
- If prompted, select "Driver Supplied by Manufacturer"
- Choose "Have Disk"
- Click on "Browse" and go to the .INF file provided with this archive.
- Click on "OK" and the driver will be installed.

- If prompted to search, click "Next"
- Choose "Other Location"
- Click on "Browse" and go to the .INF file provided with this archive.
- Click on "OK" and the driver will be installed.


Section 5: Install for NON-PnP modems (and NT 4.0)
--------------------------------------------------
- From the START button select Settings, Control Panel.
- Double-click on the Modems icon in the Control Panel.
- When prompted ensure the 'Don't detect my Modem; I will select it from a
  list' box has a cross in it.
- Click on the Next button.
- From the Modem List window click on the Have Disk button.
- Browse to the .INF file provided with this archive.
- Click on the Ok button.
- From the NetComm modem list select your modem model.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select the Communications Port that your Modem is connected to.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
- Your modem has now been installed.

:SPECIAL:
---------
[1]  Auto FaxSwitching     : With this driver, Automatic Faxswitching is
enabled and you or your answering machine must answer the incoming call. If
the call is fax or data the modem will switch the call and software will
automatically answer. Ensure the software is set to answer after 2 rings.

[2]  Manual FaxSwitching   : With this driver, Manual FaxSwitching enabled.
With Manual switching the incoming call type is determined by the person who
picks up the handset, and is manually switched by pressing a nominated
button on the phone. Ensure the software is set to answer after 2 rings.

[3]  FaxSwitching Disabled : With this driver, Faxswitching is disabled, the
incoming call will be answered by the modem and the call type will be
determined by your communication software. For more information regarding 
Faxswitching, please refer to the READ ME FIRST GUIDE (supplied with your 
Roadster modem). Note that AM1750 & AM3450 do not support Faxswitching.

[4]  Roadster 144P Economy : Economy mode is enabled for power saving. To
disable Economy mode use the Roadster 144 (AM1750) driver.

[5]  The SmartModem 288D & 336D drivers have Digital Simultaneous Voice and
Data (Digital SVD) enabled by default.

[6]  These modems have been upgraded to support 33.6k (33,600bps) and 31.2k
(31,200bps). Choose this driver so that the modem will be configured to
connect at 33.6k.

[7]  This modem supports 56k connects, and must be used in conjunction with an
Internet Service Provider, or central site, that supports the x2 standard
for 56k. (Texas Instruments and US Robotics based units)

[8]  This modem supports 56k connects, and must be used in conjunction with an
Internet Service Provider, or central site, that supports the k56flex standard
for 56k. (Rockwell & Lucent based units)

[9] 33.6k upgraded M34F users should choose the SmartModem 336 (SM3460).

[10] This modem supports 56k connects, and must be used in conjunction with an
Internet Service Provider, or central site, that supports the V.90 standard for 56k.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
