IMPORTANT:
==========

The program called FLASH_UT.EXE is called a Flash Loader and it helps you
upgrade your Scorpion56 to the ITU-T V.90 standard. The Flash Loader will
work with MS-DOS 6.x, Windows 95 and Windows 98. It will NOT work with
Windows NT (any version) or any version of MS-DOS previous to 6.0.

Ths instruction here are written for the Windows 95/98 operating system.

Step 1: Open (start) the FLASH_UT.EXE program.

Once you open the FLASH_UT.EXE program, it will create a new folder
on your hard-drive called C:\UPGRADE. This contains the MS-DOS and
	Windows 95/98 Flash tools.

Step 2:	Identify ROM type and download firmware.

At this point, you need to check very carefully to ensure you
install the correct V.90 firmware for your modem.

Your Scorpion56 PCMCIA K56Flex 56Kbps Fax Modem Card is available in
two flavours, one with 2MB Flash ROM, the other with a 4MB Flash ROM.
It is important for you to know which of them you have. To find out,
please follow the instructions below carefully.

2.1	Launch the Windows "Hyperterminal" program and create a new
		connection.
2.2 When prompted for a telephone numbers, click on the little
drop-down list arrow and select 'Direct to COMn' where 'n'
is the COM port your Scorpion56 is associated with. Then
click 'connect'. You will then be presented with a blank
		screen with a cursor.

2.3	Type "AT&&FFL" (without the quote "" marks) to verify the
firmware size of your modem card.

If it says "xxxx,10" that means your Scorpion56 has a
Lucent 2MB Flash ROM. So you should install the 2MB
		firmware.

		Download V.90 firmware for Lucent 2MB version.(v.731) Updated : 20/01/1999

If it says "xxxx,40" that means your Scorpion56 has a
Lucent 4MB Flash ROM. So you should download the 4MB
		firmware.

		Download V.90 firmware for Lucent 4MB version.(v.416)

Step 3:	Extract the modem firmware files.

Once you have selected the correct firmware for your Scorpion56,
open the downloaded file. It is self-extracting and will place the
firmware files (.HEX) in the C:\UPGRADE directory. These .HEX
files are the actual firmware for your Scorpion56.

Step 4:	Install the modem firmware.

It is vital you follow the instruction carefully to install the
firmware. If the update is not done correctly, permanent damage
	to your modem may result!

4.1	Make sure your PCMCIA socket drivers have been installed
		before the upgrade.

4.11	To verify, go to C:\UPGRADE\WIN9X, double click FLASH.EXE
program. The Flash Loader will auto-detect your modem in
		your COM Port.

4.2	If you have not already done so, open the FLASH.EXE program.

4.3	Enter the name and path of .HEX file you wish to load.
		e.g. C:\UPGRADE\WIN9X\2mv90lf.hex. You can click
"Browse..." to manually select the .HEX file.

****************************************************************************
NOTE: During the process of downloading the firmware to your Scorpion56,
PLEASE DO NOT WITHDRAW YOU CARD FROM THE PCMCIA CARD SLOT!
If you do it may cause serious damage to your Scorpion56.
Please disable screen savers when downloading the firmware.
The update will take between 1 to 2 minutes to complete.
****************************************************************************

4.4	Click "Perform Flash" to start the update. The Flash loader
will check your modem type and sector size. Finally,
Flash Loader will erase your modem flash ROM and update it
		with the new code.

Step 5:	Complete the installtion

After the programming was done, and only after, please withdraw the
Scorpion56 modem from the PCMCIA Card slot card and insert again.
Your system will find new hardware and ask for driver, please
indicate the path where the driver is stored and follow install
	wizard prompts.

KNOWN ISSUES:
=============

Occasionally, during our tests, we found that when when have finished the
flash update on a 486 machine running Windows 3.11 for Workgroups,
sometimes the program dialog box sometimes would not go away even though
the <Close> button was clicked. If this happened to you, just pop out the
PCMCIA card from loading slot, then click on the <Close> button. The dialog
box will then close immediately.
