Japanese Floppy Driver/Utility Usage Guide ÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ Japanese Floppy driver (JPFDD.SYS) and utility (FORMAT12.COM) are used to support access of NEC/Fujitsu/Toshiba 1.2MB floppy diskette under IBM PC compatible computer environment. 1) JPFDD.SYS : JPFDD.SYS is a DOS device driver which creates a floppy logical drive associated with physical drive A:. For example, if you have one floppy drive A: and one hard drive C:, you will obtain a logical drive D: when you add a DEVICE command for JPFDD.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file. Syntax ÄÄÄÄÄÄ DEVICE=[drive:][path]JPFDD.SYS [/format] Parameter ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ [drive:][path] Specifies the location of the JPFDD.SYS file. Switches ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ /format Specifies the format of Japanese 1.2MB diskette: N or n : NEC or Fujitsu 1.2MB floppy diskette T or t : Toshiba 1.2MB floppy diskette The default value for format is T (Toshiba). Notes ÄÄÄÄÄ Microsoft DOS SMARTDrive has function limitation for floppy diskette with 1024 bytes per sector such as NEC or Fujitsu type format. If you use SMARTDRV command in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you must disable the disk caching for that logical drive assigned by JPFDD.SYS /N. For example, if you has logical drive D: for NEC 1.2MB diskette, you must add one more parameter D- in SMARTDRV command line to disable D: disk caching. For more information about SMARTDRV command parameter, please see your DOS or Windows user manual. Examples ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ To support access of 1.2MB diskette with Toshiba format in your system, add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=JPFDD.SYS /T This command assigns one logical drive letter following the last physical hard drive letter. You can also create two logical drives to support NEC, Fujitsu and Toshiba diskettes by adding two DEVICE commands in your CONFIG.SYS file: DEVICE=JPFDD.SYS /T DEVICE=JPFDD.SYS /N 2) FORMAT12.COM : FORMAT12.COM is a DOS utility which formats your diskette into NEC, Fujitsu or Toshiba type diskette. It can also be used to update your boot files - BOOT.NEC and BOOT.TOS which contain NEC/Fujitsu and Toshiba boot sector information respectively. When you format diskette into NEC, Fujitsu or Toshiba type, FORMAT12 will seacrh the current directory for appropriate boot file to create the boot sector on the new diskette. Syntax ÄÄÄÄÄÄ FORMAT12 [/format|?format] Switches ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ?format Update the BOOT.??? file to have new boot sector information, where format specifies the type of Japanese 1.2MB diskette: N or n : NEC or Fujitsu 1.2MB floppy diskette T or t : Toshiba 1.2MB floppy diskette The default value for format is T (Toshiba). /format Format new diskette into 1.2MB diskette with NEC/Fujitsu/Toshiba format, where format specifies the type of Japanese 1.2MB diskette: N or n : NEC or Fujitsu 1.2MB floppy diskette T or t : Toshiba 1.2MB floppy diskette The default value for format is T (Toshiba).
