6300CD + CMD Driver Installation Instructions During the final portion of the Win 98 installation procedure, you will receive an error stating, "Your multi-function device has some child devices...". At this point you will need to restart your machine by pressing any key. Proceed to step 1 (DO NOT INCLUDE THE QUOTES "" IN THE COMMANDS LISTED BELOW) Step 1 Once the machine has restarted, you will need to press F8 as soon as Win98 begins to start. You will see a screen with several different startup options; select "Command Prompt Only". Once you are at the command prompt you will need to place your CD-ROM Driver Diskette that came with your computer into the machine. Run the install procedure; select all of the default values. When the CD-ROM driver installation has completed, go back to the C:\ by typing "cd\" and pressing the enter key. Type "md dos" and press the Enter key. Type "cd dos" and press the Enter key. Type, "copy c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe" and press the Enter key. Once this has been completed restart your machine and the Windows 98 installation will continue. Continue installing all of the necessary drivers as prompted. After Windows 98 installation has competed, proceed to step 2. Step 2 Next you will need to run the updated CMD PCI IDE Controller setup utility by running the setup.exe file. You will be asked if you wish to continue, Select YES. This will copy all of the necessary files over to your Hard Drive. When all of the files have been copied, you will be asked if you wish to restart your computer. Select YES. Remove the diskette from the drive and proceed to step 3. Step 3 Once Win 98 has restarted several new devices will be found along with their appropriate drivers. After all new devices have been detected and the appropriate drivers have been installed you will be asked if you want to restart your computer. Select NO. Next you will be asked if you want to reboot your computer Select NO. Next with the right touch pad button, click on the My Computer icon located in the top left corner of your desktop screen. Select Properties to open the System Properties box. Select the Device Manager tab; look at the list to see the Hard Disk Controllers with the two exclamation marks next to Primary CMD Bus Master Controller and Secondary CMD Bus Master Controller. Double click on the Primary CMD Bus Master Controller. And select the Settings tab. You will see several radio boxes, two of which will contain check marks. Remove the Check Marks by clicking on the Radio boxes containing the Check Marks. Select OK. Next double click on the Secondary CMD Bus Master Controller. And select the Settings tab. Remove the same Check Marks and select OK. Next select OK on the Systems Properties Window and restart you machine. Your notebook will now be able to use the proper drivers and can be used normally.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
