Client applications use the ML-500 printer driver to send
printer ready image files to the source folder (hot folder)
on the system connected to the ML-500 printer. The hot folder
is monitored by the Kodak Image Print Server. As files from
the driver arrive in the hot folder, the Image Print Server
sends them to the ML-500 printer.

be installed on the ML-500 Print Server. The drivers for the
clients are then installed from the server.

Partial prints are produced when printing from Photoshop
--------------------------------------------------------
When printing from Photoshop to the ML-500 printer the following cases
have been observed where an incomplete print is produced:
  - Partial images are produced up to an 11" length. That is, if you
try to print an 8.5" x 14" image only the first 11" may print.
  - Only a portion of the image is printed, both in the width as well
    as the length.
  - A blank page is printed.

If you encounter any of the above types of incomplete prints a
possible workaround is:
  - After manipulating your image, go into Page Setup from the
    File menu.
  - Select the ML-500 printer from the dialog.
  - Optionally, select a new page size, orientation, as well as any
ML-500 features (e.g. Cutter, Sharpening, etc.)
  - Click OK to dismiss the Page Setup dialog.
  - Open the Print dialog from File menu and click OK to print.

Job fails to print to an XP server
----------------------------------
If a job is submitted from a supported client system (Windows 98/Me
or Windows 2000/XP), fails to print, and is left in the print queue
it could be due to an XP authentication issue. This should only
occur in a non-domain environment (i.e. workgroups are being used)
where the print server is running Windows XP.

This problem can be verified if in the print queue window the Status
shows "Error - Printing" after the job has completed spooling. In
addition, the Owner is listed as "Guest".

To circumvent this situation one of two solutions can be employed.

  1) Under Windows Explorer for the XP server system display the
Tools --> Folder Options --> View dialog. At the bottom of the
Advanced settings box make sure that "Use simple file sharing
     (Recommended)" is NOT checked.

To verify that the change has taken place you can check one of
     three places:

       a) Right-click on a folder and display the Sharing and
Security dialog. The format of this dialog will be
different than when "simple file sharing" was checked.
       b) Display the Printer Properties for any printer. You
should now see a Security tab present.
       c) Display the Local Security Policy (Control Panel -->
Administrative Tools --> Local Security Policy). Under
Local Policies --> Security Options look for the item
"Network access: Sharing and security model for local
accounts". The correct setting should display
"Classic - local users authenticate as themselves"

In order for this method to work, a user must have an account
set up on both the client and server system with the same
     user id and same password.

Note: If users are allowed to log on with a blank password
then an additional security policy must be set. On the
Windows XP print server under Local Policies --> Security
Options look for "Accounts - limit local account use of
blank passwords to console logon only". This should be
set to "Disabled" so that blank passwords are allowed
with no restriction in user functionality. Client users
should log off then log back on so that this change can
           take effect.

  2) Add the Guest user account to the Administrators, Power Users,
     or Users group.

Logo fails to print
-------------------
When printing from the client and the logo selected does not print,
check that the "Enable advanced printing features" checkbox on the
server installation of the driver is turned off.

Use of custom page sizes
------------------------
If you wish to define custom page sizes (up to 108" in length) you
need to define forms using the custom forms capability provided by
Windows. In order for the form to show up in the Paper Size list for
selection during printing the new form must be defined as follows:

  - Width can range from 1 inch to 8.53 inches
     (or 2.54 - 21.67 centimeters)
  - Height can range from 8.53 inches to 108 inches
     (or 21.67 to 274.32 centimeters)
  - Width must always be less than or equal to the height. This
ensures that Windows applications will recognize the custom
     page size as portrait.

Unable to print collated copies
-------------------------------
The ML-500 printer does not support printing collated copies of a
multi-page job. If collated copies is required then the job has to
be submitted multiple times.

Limit of 128 holes for custom packages
--------------------------------------
The maximum number of page holes that can be constructed for a custom
package is 128. If you have more than 128 page holes than the following
error message is generated:

"There is a problem with the contents of the file.
Check the file for correct syntax."

*                                                                 *
*                    P R I N T I N G   T I P S                    *
*                                                                 *

Print large landscape images
----------------------------
When printing large landscape images such as a panoramic picture
it will be quicker to print the image with a portrait orientation.
As such, the image will need to be rotated in the application so
that it will fit on the paper.

Example: If you have a 8.5" x 24.0" inch landscape image such
that the width is 24.0 inches and the height is 8.5
inches you can print this from an application, such
as Photoshop, with a landscape orientation. Since the
ML-500 paper is only 8.5 inches wide, the driver must
rotate the image so that it will fit on the paper.
If the image is rotated in the application so that it
           has a portrait orientation (8.5" wide x 24.0" high)
the image can now be printed as portrait from the
driver. In this case, when printing as portrait,
the driver does not need to rotate the image internally
and the print time should be less.

Positioning a logo
------------------
When positioning a logo in the printer driver, the rectangular
region where the logo is previewed represents the printable area
of the current paper size, not the image the logo is being placed
over.

For easy logo placement, first scale your image or document to
the current paper size from within your application. Then the
rectangular region on the logo tab will more closely represent
your image.
