The Diagnostic Tool Application consists of a Windows® application together with support files including required support libraries. This application is intended to supplement the Windows® 2000/XP printer driver for the KODAK PROFESSIONAL 9810 Digital Photo Printer. Installing and Un-installing the application: =============================================== Installing: Note: the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer Diagnostic Tool application is installed with the Windows® 2000/XP printer driver for the KODAK PROFESSIONAL 9810 Digital Photo Printer. Refer to the driver's ReadMe_Driver.txt file for instructions. Un-installing: This application may be removed using the driver's uninstall procedure. Refer to the driver's ReadMe_Driver.txt file for instructions. Connecting to the Printer: ========================== This application is typically used on systems which already have the printer driver installed. If the printer driver has not been installed, please do that first before proceeding to ensure that all the required files and libraries have been installed and registered. Using the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer Diagnostic Tool: =================================================================== 1. Power on and connect the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer. 2. Pause or stop printing from the driver if necessary (the Diagnostic Tool should not be used while printing through the driver). 3. From the taskbar, click "Start", then point to "Programs" ("All Programs" on Windows® XP). 4. Navigate to, and select, "Diagnostic Tool" from the "KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer Diagnostic Tool" folder. 5. Once the application launches, select a printer from the "Printer serial no." drop-down box. Known Problems and Limitations ============================== Conflicts with the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer driver ---------------------------------------------------------- A printer cannot communicate with multiple host programs simultaneously. The Diagnostic Tool application should not be used while printing through the driver. Pause or stop all printing from the driver before launching the Diagnostic Tool (on Windows® 2000, select Start, Setup, Printers and on Windows® XP select Start, Printers and Faxes, then choose the printer from the list and pause printing). 'Test Images' and 'Firmware' folders ------------------------------------ The application is shipped with two folders for test images and firmware. These are the default locations where the application will initially expect to find these types of files. At this time, there are no files shipped with the application and these folders are empty. Logging ------- Logging of the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer may be available to other KODAK applications running on the machine. These applications may share the same log file. As a result, the location of the log file may be determined by the last application to write to the log. Additionally, the log or directory may have permissions which prevent the application from writing to the log due to the currently logged on user's access rights, or the log may have been written to a location which no longer exists. This application does not provide a way for a user to specify the location for the log file. If, when logging is to be enabled, there is a pre-existing folder defined for the log file, that folder will be used and its location displayed as an informational message. If the folder or file is not accessible, no indication will be displayed to the user. Logging is intended to be unobtrusive and errors will not be reported. If no folder is defined, the application will attempt to log to the application's working folder. If this fails, it will attempt to create a folder named 'Log files' in the Windows system drive's root (i.e. C:\). If this fails, logging will be disabled and an error message displayed. When any attempt is made to enable logging, the folder path will be displayed so the current location will be known. Troubleshooting the KODAK 9810 Digital Photo Printer Diagnostic Tool application: ================================================================================= Printer serial number is no longer displayed in the list -------------------------------------------------------- If the printer serial number is no longer displayed in the list of available printers when selecting a printer after the USB cable has been unplugged, and plugged back in (and no other application has exclusively opened the printer): 1. Unplug the USB cable and plug it back in again. 2. Select the printer from the list again. 3. If this does not fix the problem, power cycle the printer.
