RELEASE.TXT Driver File Contents (NI6510.zip)

File Name: RELEASE.TXT
Product Name: NI6510-WFWDRV
Description: WFW 3.11 Drivers for the InterLan XLerator
	      Adapters
Version: 1.27
Part Number: 158-0380-00
	      149-0380-00

SECTION 1 - Overview
--------------------
The drivers in this directory allow the InterLan XLerator adapters to be used
in Windows for Workgroups v3.11 based systems to run networking software
whose protocol stacks are written to the NDIS 2.01 and 3.0 specifications.
Both an NDIS 2.01 (.DOS) and NDIS 3.0 (.386) driver are provided.

The NDIS 3.0 driver (NI6510.386) was written and tested for conformance to
the NDIS 3.0 specification as described in the Microsoft LAN Manager Network
Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) Version 3.0, dated 9/23/91.

Version 1.20 is the first release of this driver.

Version 1.27 supports the XLerator series and Plug and Play. It also
disables the Guaranteed Access Time (GAT) mode in the Intel 823878I System
I/O (SIO) chip, which is found in some PCI/ISA PCs. When enabled, this mode
can cause a violation of ISA bus timing specification for bus master devices.
As a result, the InterLan EtherBlaster is prevented from accessing host
memory in a timely manner. GAT mode can be modified during set-up to
override the driver default (to turn GAT off). The keywords in the GAT
section of the set-up menu are ON (always turns it on), OFF (always turns it
off), and DEFAULT (does not change the system power on default).

The NDIS 2.01 driver (NI6510.DOS) was written and tested for conformance to
the NDIS 2.01 specification as described in "3Com/Microsoft LAN Manager
Network Driver Interface Specification", Version 2.0.1, dated October 8, 1990.

Section 3 is provided for users that are not familiar loading network drivers
under Windows for Workgroups v3.11.
