         Upgrading TRAKKER Antares Firmware
         -----------------------------------

The TRAKKER Antares Firmware Upgrade contains these files:

- INSTALL.BAT (user batch file to install the firmware files)
- INSTALL.INF
- INSTALL.PIF
- README.TXT (instructions for using the Firmware upgrade)
- a self-extracting archive containing the firmware files, either:
   - TKANTxxx.EXE (self-extracting archive for official releases),
     or
   - TKVxxxxx.EXE (self-extracting archive for field trial releases)
NOTE: xxx and xxxxx represent the firmware version number. For example,
TKANT710 is the archive for official release 7.10 and TKV71001 is
the archive for field trial release 7.10.01
- WHATSNEW.TXT

EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO LOAD THE FIRMWARE

To upgrade or load firmware on the TRAKKER Antares 24XX terminals, you need:

- TRAKKER Antares 24XX terminal
- Intermec RS-232 null modem cable:
    9-pin to 25-pin (Intermec P/N 047569)
    9-pin to 9-pin (Intermec P/N 059167)
- Power supply (Intermec P/N 065236)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are two steps to load firmware on the TRAKKER Antares terminals:

1. Install the firmware files on your host computer or PC. You can download
the latest version of firmware at no charge from the Intermec Web site at
   www.intermec.com.

2. Load the firmware on the TRAKKER Antares terminal.

Each step is explained next in this README.TXT file.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1: INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE ON YOUR HOST COMPUTER OR PC

To install the firmware files on your host computer or PC:

1. Copy or extract the upgrade files from your source (Intermec Web site
or e-mail) to a temporary folder on your PC.

NOTE: If you download the upgrade files from the Intermec Web site, you will
be prompted to also download the Trakker Antares Firmware Upgrade Utility
(TAUPGRADE.EXE) and the FileCopy application (FILECOPYx.x.EXE, where x.x is
the version number). Download TAUPGRADE.EXE if you are using a PC with
Microsoft Windows 2000/NT/XP. Download FILECOPYx.x.EXE if you have or need
to load TE 2000 on your terminal.

2. In an MS-DOS window, type:

   install.bat <drive>

where <drive> is the specified drive where you want the Install program to
create the directory that contains all the firmware, and the upgrade
applications. The directory name is TKANTxxx (for a full release) or TKVxxxxx
(for a field trial release), where xxx or xxxxx is the firmware version.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2: LOADING THE FIRMWARE ON YOUR TRAKKER ANTARES TERMINAL

Once you connect the terminal to your host computer or PC, you can
download the firmware using one of these utilities:

- Trakker Antares DOS Firmware Upgrade Utility. This utility is included with
the firmware upgrade. You can use this utility to upgrade the terminal
firmware using an MS-DOS window on a PC with Microsoft Windows 95/98.

NOTE: If you want to use the DOS Firmware Upgrade Utility on a PC with
Windows 2000/NT/XP, you can follow the upgrade procedure through Step 9.
Print the UPGRADE.BAT file. Identify the numbers that are associated with the
menu selections in Steps 10 through 13. When you get to Step 10, type:

  UPGRADE X X X X

where the Xs represent the menu selection numbers.

- Trakker Antares Firmware Upgrade Utility. You can choose to download this
utility when you download the latest version of firmware. Or, you can download
this utility at no charge from the Intermec Web site at www.intermec.com. This
utility allows you to upgrade the terminal firmware using a Microsoft Windows
interface on a PC with Microsoft Windows 2000/NT/XP.

NOTE: This utility cannot be used to upgrade terminals with 802.1x security.

or continue, press the Esc key once or the 1/0 key twice to exit
without upgrading the firmware. The Boot Menu appears. Press 2 or
L to access the Loader Waiting screen.

9. On your PC in the MS-DOS window, type this command:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TROUBLESHOOTING

If you have a problem loading the firmware on the terminal, here are
some things to check:

- Make sure the terminal is connected correctly to the host computer or PC.

- Make sure you have the firmware files from the Firmware disk installed
on your host computer or PC.

- Make sure you select the correct COM port during the upgrade process.

- Make sure you have selected the Upgrade Firmware option and the
terminal is at the Loader Waiting screen when you upgrade or load the
  firmware.

- NOTE:
Serial upgrade using the "upgrade.bat" method may not
work well in Windows NT & Windows 2000 environments,
        especially at high baud rates.

Also, since 7.10 version of Antares firmware, the program
"choice.com" used to satisfy the query requests of the
"upgrade.bat" file is distributed, in a form that works in
all Windows environments, Win95 through Win2K.

Should you have any trouble with baud rate, try a lower
        baud rate.

Should you have trouble with queries, use the parameter
method of instructing the "upgrade.bat" of your wishes.

- NOTE:
The display of the 246X family of readers cannot support the
requirements of the MENU system provided in all other TRAKKER
Antares units. The actions required to configure 246X units
will be provided in bar code form.
