Using the TRAKKER Antares Firmware Upgrade
         ---------------------------------------

The TRAKKER Antares Firmware Upgrade contains these files:

- INSTALL.BAT (user batch file to install the firmware files)
- README.TXT (instructions for using the Firmware upgrade)
- a self-extracting archive containing the firmware files, either:
   - TKANTxxx.EXE (self-extracting archive for official releases),
   or
   - TKVxxxxx.EXE (self-extracting archive for field trial releases)

NOTE: xxx or xxxxx represents the firmware version number.

You can use the Firmware upgrade to:

- Install a new version of the firmware on a TRAKKER Antares 24XX
  series terminal.

There are two steps to load firmware on the TRAKKER Antares 24XX series
terminals:

1. Install the firmware files on your host computer or PC.

2. Load the firmware on the TRAKKER Antares 24XX series terminal.

Each step is explained next in this README.TXT file.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO LOAD THE FIRMWARE

To upgrade or load firmware on the TRAKKER Antares 24XX terminals, you need:

- TRAKKER Antares 24XX terminal
- Intermec RS-232 null modem cable:
    9-pin to 25-pin (Intermec P/N 047569)
    9-pin to 9-pin (Intermec P/N 059167)
- Power supply (Intermec P/N 065236)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1: INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE ON YOUR HOST COMPUTER OR PC

To install the firmware files on your host computer or PC:

Copy or extract the build files from your source (WEB or email) to a
temporary folder on your PC. PC should be running Windows 95 or 98.

In an MSDOS window, run "install.bat <drive>" from the firmware upgrade.

The Install program creates a directory on the <drive> specified, that
contains all the firmware, and the upgrade/loader application.
The directory name is TKANTxxx (for a full release) or TKVxxxxx (for a
field trial release), where xxx or xxxxx is the firmware version.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 2: LOADING THE FIRMWARE ON YOUR TRAKKER ANTARES 24XX SERIES TERMINAL

Once you connect the terminal to your host computer or PC, you can
load the firmware.

1. In an MSDOS window, change to the directory that contains the firmware
files on your computer. For example, type these commands:

    c:
    cd \TKANT700

2. On the TRAKKER Antares 24XX series terminal, press and release these keys
in the order shown to access the TRAKKER Antares 2400 Menu System:

    screen appears.

5. Choose OK to continue. The next screen has this prompt:

Are you sure you want to continue?

6. Choose Yes to continue and upgrade or load the firmware. The
terminal reboots and then displays the "Loader Waiting" screen.

7. On your computer, type this command:

    upgrade

8. You see this menu:

        Communication ports:

           3 - COM3
           4 - COM4
Select download comm port [ ]:

Type the number of the COM port you are using to download firmware
from your computer. Select a download speed from the next menu.

9. You see this menu:

           Q - Quit

Select communication hardware type for TRAKKER Antares [ ]: Q to Quit

Select the appropriate hardware driver for the terminal being upgraded.

The Loader screen appears and begins downloading the firmware and
application from the computer to the terminal.

11. Once the firmware is loaded on the terminal, the terminal
reboots, displays the TRAKKER Antares screen, and then
loads the application. You need to configure the terminal now.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you have a problem loading the firmware on the terminal, here are
some things to check:

- Make sure the terminal is connected correctly to the host computer or PC.

- Make sure you have the firmware files from the Firmware disk installed
on your host computer or PC.

- Make sure you select the correct COM port during the upgrade process.

- Make sure you have selected the Upgrade Firmware option and the
terminal is at the Loader Waiting screen when you upgrade or load the
  firmware.

- NOTE:
The DOS UPGRADE utility will not work under Windows NT.

If you experience this problem, print "upgrade.bat" and
identify the numbers associated with your menu selections

        Typing UPGRADE 1 4 2 1
        will:
        use COM1 (1)

        and Proxim radio (1) driver

- NOTE:
The display of the T246X family of readers can not support the
requirements of the MENU system provided in all other TRAKKER

will be provided in barcode form.
