README.TXT

The Windows Application is a Preliminary Version of Code for Function Demonstration of ST M41ST87 Serial TIMEKEEPER / Controller. (SECURE SERIAL RTC and NVRAM SUPERVISOR with TAMPER DETECTION).The M41ST87 is a low power 1280-bit static SMOS SRAM organized as 160 bytes by 8 bits. A built-in 32.768 kHz oscillator (internal crystal-controlled) and 8 bytes of the SRAM are used for the clock/calendar function. Eight clock address locations contain the century, year, month, date, day, hour, minute, second and Tenths/hundredth of a second in 24 hour BCD format.
Address and data are transferred serially via a two line, bi-directional I2C interface.
The M41ST87 has built-in power sense circuit which detects power failures and
automatically switches to the battery supply when a power failure occurs. Two fully independent Tamper Detection Inputs allow monitoring of multiple locations within the system.

The Turbo uPSD DK3300 development/demo board features a M41ST87 interfacing the
UPSD33xx via I2C.Two switches (marked Sensor1 & 2) are on the board for Tamper
Detection.

The application demonstrates the overall functions of the M41ST87 by allowing users to interface directly with the RTC and uPSD on the DK3300 Board through the serial Cable (UART0).

In order to the run this application make sure that the following are available.
-Correct uPSD drivers and associated software for the DK3300:
	*PSDsoft Express
	*DK3300 Code/ I2C drivers for RTC - Supplied in the " RTC_Test " directory
*The Winapp package for M41ST87: supplied in the " RTC_demo " directory

BASIC INSTALLATION:
1) Make sure that all Hardware and cables, power supply etc are connected to DK 3300(Refer to DK3300 Users Guide)
2) Install all DK3300 Software and Codes related to RTC from the respective folders
3) First load the RTC Test code using PSDsoft – follow PSDsoft express manual
4) After uploading the RTC-test code (The RTC I2C code for the uPSD). Ensure that the LCD displays message “DK3300RTC test PSM Division” and then M41ST87 Demo.
5)Check that the LCD on the DK3300 shows "M41ST87 Demo".
6)Ensure that PC serial Cable is connected to DK3300's UART0 connector.
7)Run the setup.exe to install the Windows Application code for the M41ST87 demo.
8)Execute the Application-ST87Winap.exeand follow the screens to see the M41ST87 Features.

NOTE: This is PRELIMINARY CODE ( PRE-ALPHA) and is for EVALUATION ONLY. Detailed Users' guide and application note will be provided later.

KNOWN ISSUES:

The Windows application may hang when setting External RAM Clear bits for the RTC Tamper Register.
The Interrupts selection may also cause hanging in the Windows application.

These issues will be resolved in the next revision and will be posted on Website.

The Main purpose of this release is to demonstrate the use of M41ST87 RTC with Turbo uPSD.
