1. General Description and Installation
CardWizard for Windows NT provides a complete PC Card solution for
systems running Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0. It provides for Plug
and Play of PC Cards enabling users to hot insert and remove PC
Cards. Card types supported include ATA, Modem, Serial, Network,
Combo, Multifunction, Specialty, Flash, and SRAM cards.

To install CardWizard:
----------------------
This release of CardWizard for Windows NT requires Windows NT 4.0
Build 1381 or a later release of Windows NT 4.0.
A user must have administrator privileges in order to install
CardWizard for Windows NT.
If the machine already has a copy of CardWizard for Windows NT
installed, see the section "TO UPGRADE CARDWIZARD FOR WINDOWS NT"
before proceeding.
From the Start Menu, the Explorer, or from a command prompt, run
Setup.exe.
Note: The contents of the installation diskette can be copied to
a directory on the hard disk and setup can be run from this
directory. To do this, create a new (empty) directory for
this purpose.
For example:
mkdir \WizInstall
cd \WizInstall
copy a:*.*
setup [optional step]
Setup can also be run from a network drive.
To Upgrade:
-----------
The CardWizard installation automatically removes previous
versions of CardWizard prior to installing. You can also remove
CardWizard, by using the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs
applet (for version 3.00.03 or later).
After the previous version has been removed, the machine must be
rebooted. After rebooting, Setup can be run to install the new
version.
Note: To determine the version of CardWizard which is currently
on the system, run the CardWizard application, then pull down
the Help/About CardWizard menu.
To Uninstall CardWizard:
------------------------
For version 3.00.03 or later, run the CardWizard un-installation
program from the Start Menu or from the Control Panel Add/Remove
Programs applet.
For versions earlier than 3.00.03, run Setup.exe on the
installation diskett (as descirbed above). The setup procedure
will detect the existing installation and will remove it.

2. Enhancements and New Functionality
The following features were added to this product:
- Multifunction card support
- PCI IRQ sharing for Modem and ATA cards
- Enhanced network card problem resolution
- If the CardWizard application was not previously launched, it no
longer appears in the task bar on card insertion and notification
events.
- The CardWizard properties dialog boxes now indicate if the PC
Card is Hot-Swappable.
- User settings such as notification handling are now preserved
after installation.

3. Things to Know:
General:
--------
- Hot-Swapping for modem and ATA cards as well as Hot-Swapping of a
limited number of network cards is supported. SCSI cards are
supported as boot time devices. If you remove a non Hot-Swappable
network card or a SCSI card without first shutting down the
system, it is possible for the system to freeze since the driver
may not be written to handle PC Card removals.
- When upgrading to Windows NT 5.0, you must first uninstall
CardWizard. If you do not uninstall CardWizard, then the system
may hang on reboot.
- PC Cards should not be removed or re-inserted before all beeps
and notifications are completed. Failure to wait for completion
may cause unexpected results.
- PC Card support (from both SystemSoft and Microsoft) may not work
on some platforms which have a Plug and Play (PnP) BIOS because
the BIOS assumes that the operating system will handle setup
issues which are not handled by Windows NT. If PC Card support
does not work on your platform, you might be able to instruct
the BIOS to disable PnP features; the details of how this is
done vary from one platform to the next. Typically this can be
done in the BIOS setup. For example, some setups have a setting
similar to:
Plug & Play O/S: [Yes]
Set this to [No] to disable PnP BIOS features.
Modem:
------
- In some situations, the Modem applet (in the Control Panel) will
not be able to auto-detect the modem inserted in a slot. In this
case, you should choose the appropriate modem from the list.
- In some configurations, you may need to change the IRQ or Com port
used for a modem. In order to use a new configuration for the
modem, go to the Card Management / Modem dialog box and de-select
AutoConfigure. This will let you use a new configuration instead
of the last known good configuration.
Network:
--------
- Network cards whose drivers ship with Windows NT will
automatically be installed using the drivers which come with
Windows NT. If you would like to use the newer drivers, you
should go to the network applet and remove the drivers and
reinstall the newer ones.
Note: Some of the drivers which ship with Windows NT may not
work with CardWizard and will need to be updated. For a list of
updated drivers see our web page at

- If a PC Card network adapter is installed, and the machine is
rebooted with the card removed from the system or disconnected
from the network, the Service Control Manager may display the
following error message, "At least one service or driver failed
during system startup...". This is caused by limitations in the
Windows NT operating system.
It is safe to ignore this message.
- This version of CardWizard contains support for Hot-Swapping
network cards. The Hot-Swap support requires certain
functionality to be implemented in the network drivers.
Hot-Swappable drivers are available from most card vendors. For
more information on driver availability, see the SystemSoft Web
Site (www.systemsoft.com/catalog/support3.htm)
- Megahertz software beeps when their cards are successfully
inserted. When running CardWizard with beeps on, the insertion
of a Megahertz card will result in additional beeps.
- If using the Netware client and the Ositech Jack of Diamonds
combo card, there may be times when you can access the network
but cannot browse it. This is because of the frame type. The
frame type should be set to 802.2 to avoid this situation.
SCSI:
-----
- If you install a SCSI card, then later remove it, you may
receive a Service Control Manager error message that "At least
one service or driver failed during system startup..." or "Not
enough server storage to process this card..." This is caused
by limitations in the Windows NT operating system.
It is safe to ignore this message. To keep this message from
recurring, you must disable the driver for the SCSI card, or you
must make sure the SCSI card is plugged in when you boot your
system.
- Some combinations of SCSI controllers and SCSI devices do not
work together. The reason is that the SCSI specification does
not specify which device, the SCSI controller or the SCSI device,
is required to supply termination power. If neither device
supplies the power, unusual behavior will result. For example, a
CD ROM drive may have too many or no drives mapped to it. This
problem can be fixed with an Active Termination Device which can
be obtained from several manufacturers.
- For the New Media Bus Toaster SCSI card, it must be used with
SCSI devices that provide termination power or with an Active
Termination Device. If the device is not attached or powered on
when the Bus Toaster is inserted, then the system will hang at
the system startup screen until the device is activated.
Mass Storage Device (ATA, Flash, SRAM):
---------------------------------------
- The FUJIX ATA card is now supported, however, Cardwizard does not
recognized this card if it is write protected.
- It is recommended that you stop Mass Storage Device cards using
the Stop Card feature, prior to removing them from the system.
Failure to do so can result in loss of data.
- This version of CardWizard supports the following flash memory
cards:
Intel Series 2
Intel Series 2+
Intel Series 100
Intel Mini-Cards
AMD Series C
AMD Series D
AMD Mini-Cards
Intel Series 1 Flash cards are not supported.
- Several of the early Calluna ATA cards may have timing issues
with CardWizard and fail to configure. For resolution of this
problem, you should contact Calluna.
- If the drive letter for a Mass Storage card is changed in the Disk
Administrator, it will not be reflected in the CardWizard
Properties. This is a limitation of Windows NT. To set new drive
letters for your card, use CardWizard (Card Management / Mass
Storage).
- Due to a timing issue with the Windows NT file system, sometimes
the volume and file system format may not appear in the Mass
Storage Properties menu. If you close the dialog box and reopen
it, the information will be available for a previously formatted
card.
- Memory cards (Flash and SRAM) are implemented as removable media
by CardWizard. If you try to copy a file which is larger than the
memory cards capacity, Windows NT will prompt you for
another "disk". However, removing the memory card and
reinserting another card is not handled correctly by the copy
command.
- For Flash cards, when a flash card reaches capacity, performance
degradation for reads and writes will occur. Reformatting the
disk will help improve performance.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
