CardSoft 5.32.18 Readme ----------------------- Known Issues ------------ 1. Install - Unable to open DISK.ID file. If this problem occurs it is because there are not enough file handles available. To remedy this problem increase the number of handles available in CONFIG.SYS (eg: FILES=40), reboot the system, and reinstall CardSoft from the floppy drive. 2. Thinkpad SelectaDock I and SelectaDock II with Xircom Ethernet/Modem 33.6 Due to resource constraints and a deficiency in the Xircom driver you must disable the Infrared port using the ThinkPad utilities in order to use this card on the dock slots. Also in order to use the XIRCOM card with the SelectaDock I or SelectaDock II follow the additional two steps below: 1. Copy the XIRCOM.EXE file from the XIRCOM directory on the installation disk into the C:\CARDSOFT directory. 2. Enter the line below at the command prompt: C:\CARDSOFT\XIRCOM.EXE After completing the two steps above the system will be prepared to use the XIRCOM card. In the event that you reboot the system you will have to follow the above steps again in order to facilitate use of the XIRCOM card again. If you intend to use XIRCOM card permenantly then you may want to run the XIRCOM.EXE program in your AUTOEXC.BAT as shown below. Enter the line below in your AUTOEXEC.BAT: C:\CARDSOFT\XIRCOM.EXE 3. Windows 3.11 and Windows 95 Issues CardSoft does not support Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. We recommend that you do not attempt to use the CardSoft product with Windows 3.11 or Windows 95. Instead we recommend the use of SystemSoft's CardWizard or CardWorks for Windows 3.11 and Windows 95 respectively. If you install Windows 3.11 using CardSoft you must completely remove the CardSoft stack from your CONFIG.SYS file when Windows installation is finished. If you install Windows 95 using CardSoft you must completely remove the CardSoft stack from your CONFIG.SYS file at the first time Windows95 reboots the system during its installation. To do it, insert DOS boot diskette to floppy diskette drive before Windows reboots the system. After modification of CONFIG.SYS with using an editor program such as E.EXE or EDIT.EXE, remove the diskette and reboot the system. Then Windows 95 installation will be continued. Also do not install the CardSoft product after installing either Windows 3.11 or Windows 95. Flash Cards that have been formatted in Windows 95 using Plug & Play mode can not be read/written by CardSoft. To avoid this problem, Flash Cards which are to be used in both modes should be formatted in CardSoft mode. 4. PROCOMM Plus Suspend/Resume Limitation If using PROCOMM Plus v2.01 for DOS and a Modem card is inserted, you must close the application before you suspend the system or your system may hang. 5. LAN/SCSI Hot Swap Limitation Do not hot swap LAN and SCSI cards under DOS or Windows3.11 as this will generally result in a system crash. Most cards documentation states this limitation explicitly, and some do state that hot swapping is supported, but some do not say anything at all. Unless explicitly stated otherwise we do not recommend the hot swapping of any such cards. 6. Parameter behind EMM386.EXE According to the EMM386.EXE and CardWizard, the parameter behind EMM386.EXE must be NOEMS, not RAM. Example EMM386 line: DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM X=D000-D7FF is wrong DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D7FF is right Please change RAM to NOEMS manually if the parameter is RAM. Ver a.
