1394-FireWire to IDE/ATAPI Installation instruction

Mac OS 9. x or 10. x
1. Plug the FireWire cable and turn on the power switch on the rear of the enclosure,
A new disk should be mounted and added to your desktop. ( No drive installation required )
" Hard Disk " or " Removable disk " should now be lised.
2. If the drive is not correctly formatted you will be asked to initialize it. Click on the partition tab
and set your desired partitions, then click ok. The new disk will be added to your desktop.
3. If you can not see the drive, make sure the jumper setting of your Device
are correct on " Master " , the drivers are installed and the power
is turned on !
4. For Mac OS 8.6, the Firewire extension has to be at least v2.6.
( Rember, Formatting your drive will result in loss of dat. )
** How to Remove the device from Computer
1. Close all windows and quit all applications that are running on the external drive.
2. Drug the external hard drive icon into " Trash Bin " to dismount it from the desktop prior to unplugging the drive.
( Remove the disk to "Trash " foloder ).
Warning !!
If your computer reports that the drive is busy, you must shut down
your computer and then remove the drive.
Failure to do so many result in data loss or corruption.
Be certain to follow the above procedure to remove device from the computer;
otherwise, the computer could crash and jeopardize valuable data permanently.
** Formatting & Partition Notice !!
. Mac OS9.2 and earlier, does not support creating partitions on an external drive.
To do that, you would need to purchase af\dditional 3th parth software,
connect the drive to the internal IDE bus or upgrade to OS X.
Initializing the drive can be done on all Operating Systems.
. For Mac OS.X use the Disk Utility to format and creat Partitions on your external Disk.
- Select " Disk Utility " in the utility folder.
- Choose your external drive and format it according to your requirement.
. If you want to use your drive on a PC running Microsoft Windows as well as on your Mac,
please use a PC to format the drive. Choose FAT32 when formatting and do not
change anything on the partition or format on your Mac. Otherwise the PC will not be
able to recognize the drive anymore.
. If you use Win2000 or WinXP and FAT32. The biggest single partition
you can creat will be 32GB. To create larger partitions, you need
to use the DOS command under Win98SE or WinME or change to NTFS format.
. If you need to create several partitions, you need to use the DOS command
under 98SE or WinME, it's required to format the drive again.
. Mac OS does not recognize NTFS formatted drives. To yse your device on both
platforms, we recommend you using FAT32.
Be certain to follow the above procedureto remove the device from the computer;
otherwise, the computer colud crash and jeopardize valuable data permanently.
