This document describes the installation of the UnixWare driver package. Please read this document in its entirety before installing this software. This document contains information specific to this "Four of Diamonds Trumpcard SCO Unix and UnixWare Drivers Diskette". More general, up-to-date information on Version 1.10 of the Ositech Four of Diamonds Trumpcard software, including a directory map of all text/readme files on all diskettes, can be found in the README.TXT file located on the "Four of Diamonds Trumpcard Diagnostics, Utilities and Modem Scripts Diskette". Requirements In order to install the otceth driver, you must have the following: > an Intel 365 compatible or Databook compatible PCMCIA adapter > a bootable UnixWare 1.1 (or later) system, or a UnixWare 2.0 (or later) system, or a UnixWare AS set up as an install server > access to the UnixWare root account > knowledge of the IRQs, I/O ports and memory windows that you wish to assign to the Trumpcard functions. > If using an ISA PCMCIA controller in a PCI Bus machine, you should use the BIOS to open an ISA Memory window for the Trumpcard ========================================================================== 1.1 Installing the Ethernet Support Package The OTCETH STREAMS driver depends upon the package nsu "Network Support Utilities" which must be installed prior to the installation of the Trumpcard Ethernet driver package. The nsu package is part of the Personal Edition and Application Server versions of UnixWare. Please refer to the README.eth file for more information on installing the Ethernet support package. ========================================================================== 2. Software Distribution You may receive the Ethernet Support Package via any one of five distribution methods: > a UnixWare 1.1 and 2.0 Network distribution > a compressed ZIP archive (.exe) distribution > a file archive (.tar) distribution > one of two diskette distribution methods: > a DOS distribution diskette > a UnixWare diskette 2.1 UnixWare 1.1 and 2.x Network Installation You can use the Trumpcard Ethernet Driver to perform network installations of the UnixWare system from an Install Server on your network. Please refer to the NET_INST.TXT file for more information on using the Trumpcard to perform a network install. 2.2 Compressed ZIP Archive (.exe) Distribution If the driver was obtained in an (.exe) format, then you must run the .exe file under DOS with the -d option to create any subdirectories. The destination should be a diskette drive, in this case diskette drive A: unixware.exe -d a:\ This will generate an image of the DOS distribution diskette with only the UnixWare directories and files present. Please refer to the DOS diskette distribution section below for more instructions. 2.3 File Archive (.tar) Distribution If the package is stored in a file archive (.tar) format, you can extract the files in the file archive using the following command entered in a Terminal window: tar -xf osi_uw.tar This will extract the contents of the file archive (for example, the compressed datastream file, trumpc.Z, and this README file). First, uncompress the datastream using the following command executed in the same directory as the trumpc.Z file: # uncompress trumpc To start the installation of the Trumpcard Ethernet Support Package, logon as "root", change to the same directory as the trumpc file that was previously uncompressed and extracted from the file archive, and issue the following command: # pkgadd -d /{path_to_trumpc}/trumpc Simply complete the installation screens and the package will be installed. Following a shutdown, the OTCETH driver should be loaded. If you wish to store this package on a floppy disk, you will need a Unix formatted floppy and pkgtrans (also available on the SDK or as pkgtrn.tar). Execute the following commands to create the installation diskette: # format -v /dev/rdsk/f03ht (or f13ht if disk is in B:) # pkgadd -d /{path_to_trumpc}/trumpc -s /var/spool/pkg otceth # pkgtrans -s /var/spool/pkg diskette1 otceth (or diskette2 if it's B:) 2.4 Diskette Distribution There are two diskette distribution methods: > DOS distribution diskette > UnixWare diskette 2.4.1 DOS Distribution Diskette Copy the install script from the diskette using the doscp command: $ doscp a:unix/uw/install /tmp/install $ su Password: # cd /tmp # sh install Then simply follow the instructions provided by the install script. You will also need a blank diskette which will become your UnixWare Trumpcard Driver installation diskette. 2.4.1.1 DOS Diskette Installation Walkthrough The following is a walkthrough of the install script: $ su Password: # cd /tmp # doscp a:unix/uw/install install # sh install If you have DOS merge installed then the script will copy the file archive for the DOS distribution diskette. The install script will now attempt to extract the contents of the of the /unix/uw/osi_uw.tar archive file previously copied from the DOS distribution diskette to the UNIX /tmp directory. In order for this installation script to be successful, you must have installed the following patches: ptf240 - Slink patch for UnixWare 1.1.2 NOTE: You must be root user in order to run this script Press ENTER to continue Q)uit Please insert the DOS distribution diskette in drive A: Press ENTER to continue Copying osi_uw.tar file archive from diskette ...done. Following a shutdown and possibly a kernel rebuild, the drivers should be loaded. ========================================================================== 3. Utilities There are several utility scripts that are placed in the /tmp directory during the installation of the packages: /tmp/irqcheck /tmp/netrun Since the files in the /tmp directory will be removed upon rebooting the machine, these files should be moved to a permanent directory such as your home directory, or /usr/sbin or any other directory. 3.1 irqcheck This script file can be used to determine what IRQs are available on your machine. Simply logon as "root" and execute it: $ su Password: # sh irqcheck CAUTION: Hardware that is present in this machine, but has not been configured using UnixWare, will not be reported. 1 kd 2 [8259 Cascade -> IRQ9] 3 asyc 4 asyc 5 otceth 6 fd 7 lp 8 rtc 9 asyc 10 adss 11 ** THIS IRQ AVAILABLE ** 12 ** THIS IRQ AVAILABLE ** 13 ** THIS IRQ AVAILABLE ** 14 dcd 15 ** THIS IRQ AVAILABLE ** # 3.2 netrun This script can be used to start and stop the networking under UnixWare 1.x. Please refer to the README.eth file for more information about the netrun utility. 3.3 README.eth Please review the various README files on the DOS installation diskette, or that have been placed in the /tmp directory during the installation of one or more of the Trumpcard packages, for the latest release information on the various packages. ========================================================================== 4. Things You Should NOT Do DO NOT remove the card while running unless you have demand unloaded the OTCETH network driver first. There is NO support for hot swapping. ========================================================================== 5. Trademarks NetWare is a registered trademark of Novell, Inc.
