Installing the Xircom Modem Drivers in a generic Windows 2000 environment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

 1.  Right-click on 'My Computer' and select Properties.

 2.  At the 'System Properties' window, select the Hardware Tab.  Click on the 
     'Device Manager' button.

 3.  Double-click on the "PCI Serial Port" under Other Devices.  

 4.  At the 'PCI Serial Port Properties' window, select the Driver Tab.  

 5.  Click on 'Update Driver'.  

 6.  At the 'Upgrade Device Driver Wizard' window click Next.

 7.  At the following window, select "Search for a suitable driver..." and click Next.

 8.  At the next window check the box next to "Specify a location", then click Next.
     At the following window enter the location "C:\NECApps\xircom\modem2k" and click OK.

 9.  When Windows finds the driver for the device, specified at the location 
     you just entered, click Next.

10.  Windows will then install the drivers. When done, click on Finish. Close 
     the 'Xircom MPCI+ Modem 56 WinGlobal Properties' window.

11.  Click OK to close the 'System Properties' Window.

12.  Go to 'Control Panel' and double click on 'Phone & Modem'.  The 'Location Information' 
     window will appear.  

13.  Enter your area code and dialing information and click OK.  

14.  The Phone and Modem Options window will appear.  Make any necessary changes to 
     your modem settings and click OK to complete the setup.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
