Linux installation - Red Hat 4.0 or above - Initio Ultra-SCSI adapters

This procedure may be followed step by step for a new installation of
Linux. This procedure assumes installation will be with a supported
Initio SCSI host adapter. This kernal in this version contains support
for IDE devices.
Installation Procedure - Part 1
-------------------------------
Obtain MS-DOS boot floppy with MSCDEX, FDISK and FORMAT
Boot MS-DOS and run FDISK
Create a primary partition, this will be the location of the LINUX
"swap" file. As a general rule, this partition should be twice the
size of the RAM available
Note: Initio's Linux kernel expects "swap" to be the first partition
and also expects the Linux OS to be installed on the second
partition.
Reboot from floppy and format the partition with the "/s" switch
Reboot system from newly formatted partition
Run DOSETUP from Initio DOS manager set floppy and reboot.
NOTE: c: is hard drive, d: is CD-ROM, a: is floppy drive.
Substitute actual drive letter if it is different
Make a c:\dosutils directory
Make a c:\dosutils\autoboot directory
Insert LINUX CD
Copy contents of d:\dosutils to c:\dosutils
Copy contents of d:\dosutils\autoboot to c:\dosutils\autoboot
Copy a:\dosutils\vmlinuz c:\dosutils\autoboot\vmlinuz
Change directory to c:\dosutils
Run autoboot
After system boots LINUX continue with normal LINUX installation
Note: remember to make the first partition Linux "swap" and during
the installation of Linux, create a second primary partition
which will contain the Linux OS.
The last part of Linux installation will update the master boot
record this portion of the Linux setup has a bug and fails to
complete the operation. When this happens, press F12 till the system
exits setup and reboots. Insert a bootable DOS floppy, allow system
to reboot and then follow steps in Installation Procedure - Part 2
Installation Procedure Part 2

After system reboots from DOS floppy, remove DOS floppy insert the
Initio Linux driver floppy and change directory to A:\dosutils
Run autoboot and wait for system to boot Linux
Mount floppy drive - mount /dev/fd0 /mnt
cd /etc
cp /mnt/lilo~1.con lilo.conf
Use VI to edit lilo.conf - be sure file reads the same as example
Cp /mnt/dosutils/vmlinuz /boot
Run lilo
Shutdown and reboot - sync ; reboot
Example lilo.conf
-----------------------
boot = /dev/sda
image = /boot/vmlinuz
label = linux
root = /dev/sda2
Note: This release is intended for the Red Hat distribution of Linux
and its variants. This driver has been tested with Red Hat 4.2 only.
Initio will support other Linux distributions in the near future.
Initio is actively negotiating with several distributions to have the
Initio drivers embedded in future releases. Releases of SUSE LINUX
later than 5.1 will have Initio drivers embedded in the distribution.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
