Overview

This is the first release of the Windows XP Red Owl modem driver.


Identification

Device Manager listings include 56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV under PCI, 56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV under Modem, and Wave Device for Voice Modem or Unimodem Half Duplex Wave Device under Sound, video and game controllers.


Installation

You can download the driver from the Gateway ftp site at:

ftp://ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/win_xp/modem/7511915.exe

Download the file to the desktop, and then follow these steps.

1.  Double-click the 7511915.exe file.

2.  In the WinZip Self-Extractor window, click Unzip to expand the files to the C:\cabs\7511915 folder.  When finished, click OK, and then click Close.

3.  Close all open windows and dialog boxes.

4.  Click Start, and then click Run.  In the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, type: C:\cabs\7511915\Setup.exe.  Click OK.

5.  On the Welcome screen, click OK.

6.  An Updating Hardware Information Database dialog box opens, followed by three New Hardware Found dialog boxes for the PCI Card, the 56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV, and the Unimodem Half Duplex Wave Device.

7.  Click Finish.  Restart the computer to initialize the modem properly.  Click Start, and then click Shut Down.  In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, in the What do you want the computer to do list, click Restart, and then click OK.


Removal

1.  Open Control Panel.

a.  If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, click Start, and then click Control Panel. 
b.  If you are using the classic Start menu, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  Open Add or Remove Programs.

a.  If you are in Category View, click Add or Remove Programs. 
b.  If you are in Classic View, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, click GTW V.92 Modem, and then click Change/Remove.

4.  In the Confirm Removal dialog box, click OK.

5.  The driver is automatically removed. 

6.  Restart the computer.

a.  Click Start, and then click Turn Off Computer.
b.  In the Turn off computer dialog box, click Restart.

This is the first release of the Windows XP 56K PCI Voice Modem SF-1156IV driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
