1) System Requirements

   * This package should be installed on the VIA VT82C586B or
     VT82C596 Chipset. It will not support other chipsets.

   * The "VIA USB Filter Driver" only supports Windows 98.
                                        

2) Distribution Package Contents  
     This distribution floppy is compress in a zip format. 
     It is uncompressed on execution.
 
   When uncompressed, the driver includes these files:

        README.TXT
	OS.DAT
	_ISDEL.EXE
	SETUP.EXE
	LANG.DAT
	_INST32I.EX_
	_SETUP.DLL
	SETUP.INS
	_SYS1.CAB
	SETUP.BMP
	DATA.TAG
	SETUP.INI
	_USER1.CAB
	LAYOUT.BIN
	DATA1.CAB
	SETUP.LID

3)  Windows 98 Driver
    
    *************************
    ** Driver Installation **
    *************************
      Click the SETUP.EXE program and select the "Install" button.
    The "VIA USB Filter Driver" will automatically be installed 
    on your Windows 98 system. 
      The driver will be copied to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and 
    set in the related registry tree.

    ** Driver Uninstallation **
    ***************************
      Remove the "VIA USB Filter Driver" by selecting the "Uninstall" 
      button. This will completely remove the driver from the sytsem.
    

4) Package Version Identify
     Use the dir/p command to check the distribuation version and 
    release date with the DATE\TIME, e.g.:
    
        SETUP    EXE        59,392  11-21-98  5.00.207.0 SETUP.EXE

     The date column shows that the driver was released on November
    21, 1998 and the time column shows that it is version 5.00.207.0.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
