TouchChip drivers for Windows, ver44 Copyright (c) 2001-2004 UPEK All Rights Reserved. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This ReadMe file contains information regarding the drivers for TouchChip authentication hardware. ------------------------------- SUPPORTED PRODUCTS ------------------------------- This driver supports following products: - TCS3B-TCD41B TouchStrip Chipset with USB interface - Products with in-built TCS3B-TCD41B TouchStrip Chipset (e.g. notebooks) - TouchStrip USB fingerprint reader TCRZ3 - TouchChip Trusted Fingerprint Module TCEBB1C with USB interface - TouchChip USB fingerprint readers TCRU1C, TCRU2C, TCRB1C, TCRU1A Supported Operating Systems are: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Server2003. The drivers are WHQL certfied (digitally signed by Microsoft) except for the Windows 98 driver. Note: Smartcard-enabled TouchChip readers (TCRP1C, TCRA1C, TCRS1C) are not supported by this driver. Dedicated driver version is available for these USB readers. ------------------------------- PROTECTOR SUITE USERS ------------------------------- Protector Suite QL users: Drivers are installed automatically as a part of the Protector Suite installation. It is not necessary to install the drivers separately. ------------------------------- FILES ------------------------------- Windows XP/2003 driver: tcusb.inf in WinXP_2003 directory Windows 2000/ME driver: tcusb2k9x.inf in Win2KMe directory Windows 98 driver: tcusb98.inf in Win98 directory ------------------------------- INSTALLATION ------------------------------- Devices with built-in fingerprint sensor (e.g. notebooks) ============================== Follow these steps to install TouchChip driver if you are using a device with built-in fingerprint sensor (such as a notebook computer): 1) Open the Device Manager window. (Right-click MyComputer icon, or use shortcut Windows Key + Pause, On Windows 98/ME: select "Device Manager" tab; On Windows 2000/XP/Server2003: select "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button). 2) On Windows 98/ME/2000/XP - with TouchStrip, TCRZ3 and TCEBB1C devices: look for "Biometric" branch. If "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor" is listed with a yellow exclamation mark, right click the item, choose "Properties" and select "Reinstall driver ...". This will invoke the Device Driver/Hardware Update Wizard. On Windows 98/ME/2000/XP - with TouchChip area sensor devices: look for "Biometric" branch. If "TouchChip Fingerprint Reader" is listed with a yellow exclamation mark, right click the item, choose "Properties" and select "Reinstall driver ...". This will invoke the Device Driver/Hardware Update Wizard. On Windows Server2003: look for "Personal Identification devices" branch. If "TouchChip Fingerprint Reader" or "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor" are listed with a yellow exclamation mark, right click the item, choose "Properties" and select "Reinstall driver ...". This will invoke the Device Driver/Hardware Update Wizard. 3) If you can't find your device listed: On Windows 98/ME: Press the "Refresh" button. On Windows 2000/XP/Server2003: perform "Scan for hardware changes". 4) Device Driver/Hardware Update Wizard will start and you will be prompted for drivers. Insert the installation CD/driver CD and continue the wizard by choosing the option "Specify the location of driver". Point to the directory with TouchChip drivers (if you have obtained original CD from TouchChip, drivers are stored in \Drivers directory) and complete the wizard. TCRU, TCRB, TCRZ, TCEBB1C and other devices connected to USB port ============================== Follow these steps to install the TouchChip driver for your USB device: 1) Plug in your fingerprint device. 2) "Found New Hardware" or similar dialog is displayed. If no such dialog is displayed, proceed as follows: a. Open the Device Manager window: ¨ (Right-click My Computer icon, or use shortcut Windows Key + Pause, on Windows98/ME: select "Device Manager" tab; on Windows2000/XP/Server2003: select "Hardware" tab and click the "Device Manager" button). b. If "TouchChip Fingerprint Reader" or "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor" are listed with a yellow exclamation mark in "Biometric" branch (Windows 98/ME/2000/XP) or under "Personal Identification devices" branch (Windows Server2003), right click such item, choose "Properties" and select "Reinstall driver ...". (Details: When OS changes power mode i.e. Standby, Hibernate, Restart or Power Off, OS prepares the action, displays the screen with "Going to<power mode>" information and freezes. Mouse cursor can be moved but nothing else works. Please note that this problem looks similar to the problem in Build 26, but the cause is different.) - Sensor stops working at XP SP2. (Details: Sensor suddenly stops working; no menu, no reaction to touch. System can continue working for hours with no problem but on power state change an OS freeze occurs as described above.) - Power management reworked to eliminate race conditions between selective suspend and OS power management - Symbolic link support added for compatibility with legacy software - Additional UPEK VID supported in the INF file Build 38 (released 23.7.2004) ============================ Changes: - TcDrv manufacturer changed from ST to UPEK in the INF file - "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" checkbox in Power Management tab (Device Manager) enabled only if device can really awake computer from low power modes. - Known Build 26 problems fixed: - Deadlock (OS freeze) at XP SP2 RC2 and XP SP2 final version. (Details: when device was selectively suspended by OS and awaken later, there were race conditions which could cause problem detected by OS USB driver which in turn invokes BSOD.) After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
