Downloading drive FW ---------------------------------------------------------

Use the NCRM menus to identify and if necessary to download the new firmware. The package "scd" must be installed to download drive FW in a Disk Array.  Device inquiries are done with the following commands:

 1) From a root prompt type ncrm.
 2) Select tests (F3).
 3) F2 for choices.
 4) F2 to mark the device to test.
    Only one LUN can be selected at a time.
 5) F3 to enter the marked device.
 6) F3 to enter the device test screen.
 7) Select non-destructive tests.
 8) F3 to enter.
 9) From Disk Tests use F2 to mark ID Disks.
10) F3 to run the test.
11) Leave the run options at default and press F3.
12) Each drive in the array rank associated with the LUN selected will be
    displayed a screen at a time. The drive can be identified by the channel #.
    Write down the Vendor ID and Product ID. You will need this later.
13) The firmware version will be displayed as "Product Rev Level".

New firmware can be downloaded using the ncrm menus and selecting
   "destructive tests".

 1) Return back to the SCSI Device Test screen.
 2) Select destructive tests.
 3) F3 to enter
 4) From Disk Tests use F2 to mark Disk F/W Download.
 5) F3 to run the test.
 6) Leave the run options at default and press F3.
 7) Select option 2 to Download disk drive firmware.
 8  return to continue download
 9) Enter the vendor name.
10) Enter the product ID.
11) The 8601 firmware file can be located in any directory
    of a system hard drive. Use the proper file for the drive type. Provide
    the full path name when prompted.
12) Select the drives to download to. Any number of drives in the LUN can be
    selected at the same time but all drives must be of the same type.
13) Verify the new firmware version when download to the rank is completed.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
The firmware download must be done while the disk drive is idle (all processes to the array must be killed such as "amd" and "apc").  It is recommended that the host system be in init state "s".  The download to each drive will take approximately 1 minute.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
