INSTALLATION OF WAVELAN NDIS DRIVER ON IBM LAN SERVER 2.0

Required files
--------------
    (1) NDIS driver WVLAN02.OS2
    (2) Driver Description file WAVELAN.NIF

Installation Steps
------------------
Reference: Network Administration Manual
Volume 1: IBM LAN Server 2.0 Planning and Installation
           (starting page 3-12)

    (1)	Go to an active OS/2 Full Screen session.
    (2) Insert Server Install/Diskette 1 into drive A.
    (3) Type "a:laninst" at the commandline prompt and press ENTER.
    (4) Select "ADVANCED" as the desired type of installation.
    (5) The install script will ask you to insert the
"Network Adapter Drivers" diskette to load the IBM-certified
drivers (WaveLAN is not on this diskette [yet]).
    (6) When loading of these drivers has been completed a menu screen with
        the following options appears:

            o Configure Workstation
o Copy additional Network Adapter Drivers
            o Configuration Complete

    (7) Select the appropriate option [yes indeed: the middle one].
    (8) You will be asked to identify the full pathname e.g.
                  a:\ibmlan
    (9) The files in this sub-directory of the (copy of the) WaveLAN
software diskette will then be loaded.
   (10) When the loading is completed the menu, shown above in step 6,
is displayed again, now select the Configure Workstation option.
   (11) You will note that the name "WaveLAN Adapter" has been
added to the list of Network Adapter Drivers from which you may
        select your favorite [ i.e. WaveLAN ].
   (12) While you are at this Configure Workstation option, you may view
or modify the parameter values for each of the Protocol Drivers
        that you may have added.
   (13) After you have pressed ENTER or clicked on OK, the installation
script re-displays the menu shown in step 6 above, this time you
select the Configuration Complete option and let the script
        complete its work.
   (14) When the installation script has finished you would follow the
        suggestion to shut-down and re-boot.
   (15) When the machine starts up, you will see that the WaveLAN driver
gets loaded via the screen message:
       "WaveLAN NDIS Driver V2.xx
Network ID = nn nn Security Feature Disabled" [or Enabled]

with two Protocol Drivers (IBM IEEE 802.3 and IBM OS/2 NETBIOS) follow.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
