Windows 3.1 & 3.11 Driver Installion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Start Windows
2. Double click on Control Panel icon under Main Group.
3. Double click on the "Printers" icon.
4. Windows displays the "Printers" dialog box. From this dialog box,
one can add, remove or modify printer drivers. Please click on "Add" button
to add the TVS Printer driver.
5. You will find that the dialog box extends to add a list of printer
drivers available under Windows. Place the band on the first entry ("Install
Unlisted or Updated Printer") and click on "Install" button.
6. The "Install Driver" dialog box appears. Normally, the drive
indicated for inserting the driver diskette is "A:\". Select the drive in
which you have placed this CDROM. Type in the path for the directory, say
D:\WIN31DRV. Type and click on OK. Alternately, you may also click on
"Browse" button to do the same.
7. Select the TVS Printer model for which you want to install the
driver. For example, select "TVS MSP 345". Click on OK to continue.
8. Windows displays the "Printers" dialog box again. But this time,
you will notice that "TVS MSP 345" has been added to the "Installed Printers"
list. To be able to use TVS MSP 345 driver under all Windows applications,
please click on the "Set As Default Printer" button. This completes the
installation.

Setting up the printer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We print a variety of documents on a printer. It could be a listing of
employees’ salaries, a report replete with text, graphics and pictures,
informal note or memo, draft of proposals or an engineering drawing. Based on
the type of document, the paper size, the print resolution and the print
quality change.
For instance, you may prefer to print the listing in draft on 15" continuous
stationery, the report in 180 x 180 dpi on an A4 sheet. The Windows Control
Panel allows you to change these settings as and when required. In the
"Printers" dialog box, click on the "Setup" button to set up these printer
settings.
As you can see, Print resolution, paper size, paper source and print
orientation can be changed. Let us take a brief look at some of these settings.
Resolution
----------
This is a measure of how close the dots are placed on the paper. These
are expressed in DPI, which stands for Dots Per Inch. TVS MSP 345 printer
support the following resolutions:
· 120 x 180 Low resolution Highest speed
· 180 x 180 Medium resolution
· 360 x 180 High resolution
· 360 x 360 Super high resolution
The expression 120 x 180 indicates that in this mode, the printer can print
120 dots in an inch horizontally and 180 dots vertically in an inch. Higher
resolution improves appearance of the document but reduces print speed.
For instance, at 360 x 360 resolution, the output is crisp and dark. But the
printer prints two passes to complete a line.
TIP: Use 120 x 180 for most of the draft printing applications because this is
fast and conserves ribbon. For final documents, use 180 x 180 because this
combines reasonable quality, economy and speed. For selected applications
like printing line drawings, use 360 x 180 dpi or 360 x 360 dpi because, this
mode produces very dark output (consumes more ink), takes longer to complete
printing. Avoid using 360 x 360 dpi if you are printing colour documents.
Some application software allows you to change these settings from within the
application itself. Other applications take the resolution setting set through
the control panel.
Paper size
----------
The TVS MSP 345 printer driver supports a variety of paper sizes from
A5 to A3. The driver also supports a custom size to accommodate forms that
are not supported directly by the driver.
Here again, in most of the applications, you can change the page size from
within the application itself (example: Page layout or Layout menu). But many
others rely on the settings selected through the Windows control panel.
Please make sure that the paper size selected in the application and the one
selected in the driver are same. Otherwise, the output may not match the page
layout.
Orientation
-----------
The orientation setting in Windows indicates the way the software will
be printing on the paper. In Portrait orientation, the printer will print
parallel to the short side of the paper. In Landscape orientation, the
printer will print parallel to the long side of the paper.
Options Button
--------------
Clicking on the Options button puts out the Options dialog box. Let us look
at the key elements of this dialog box.
a. Dithering
Photographic image, colour graphics etc. and other colour images
(includes shades of grey) seen on your VGA monitor have to be converted to
dot graphic information which can be printed by printing devices. This
process is called dithering. None, Coarse, Fine and Line art refer to the
quality of dithering.
TIP: If you are using lower resolution (say 120 x 180), use Fine dithering.
If you are using higher resolution (say 360 x 180, 360 x 360), select Coarse
dithering. Using "Fine" dithering at higher resolutions can lead to dark
images with very little shades. In coarse dithering, though the dots will be
visible, the overall graphic image will have more shades and will look better
from a distance.
b. Intensity control
You will see a scroll bar with one end marked Darker and the other
marked Lighter. This is once again a measure of controlling the way the
photographic images and colours are printed. If you have loaded a new ribbon,
the charts printed may look too dark. In such situations, move the selector
towards Lighter.
However, please note that this is useful only for photographic images and
charts. This is not effective while you are printing text. This can also not
be used for increasing the darkness if your ribbon is old.
c. Print quality
The options available are Letter quality and Draft. Use Draft for
quick; rough print out and Letter Quality for final output.

Using with applications
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Selecting Fonts
---------------
When you select a font from an application, say Word for Windows, you
will find that some font names are prefixed with TrueType icon or printer icon.
The TrueType fonts are bundled with every copy of Windows and reside on your
hard disk. Windows turns the TrueType fonts into dots and prints them as it
would print a pie chart. Hence, printing could be slower.
The printer fonts are built into your TVS MSP 345. They fall into two
categories - fixed size fonts and scalable fonts. Roman, Sans Serif, Courier,
Prestige, Orator, Orator-S, Script, Script-C, and OCR-B are fixed size fonts.
The Roman Scalable and Sans Serif Scalable fonts can be printed in sizes
ranging from 8 pts to 32 pts using the TVS MSP 345 driver.
To use a Scalable font, select the font and the size also (as you would do
with TrueType fonts).
TIP: If you are using TVS MSP 345 for taking final print outs, you may use
the built-in fonts. But if you are taking proof print outs of documents
which you will ultimately print on a laser printer or a typesetter, use
TrueType fonts.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
