NS8/NS20 Upgrade Instructions The following instructions are for updating the firmware of the NS8 and NS/20 tape drives to the latest revision. Operating Instructions 1. Attach the tape drive to the SCSI Bus. If the drive is not recognized by the SCSI Bus, verify that termination SCSI ID are set up correctly. Make sure the tape drive is at the lowest possible SCSI ID. 2. Load an ASPI driver for the DOS environment loaded in your Config.sys file. You may need to contact your Host Adapter manufacturer to obtain the file. The example below shows the device line needed in the config.sys file if you were using an Adaptec 1540 controller: Device=c:\wangtek\aspi4dos.sys /d In the above example, the aspi4dos.sys file was placed in the wangtek directory. 3. To execute the flash executible, type the following at the C:\ prompt: FLASH4 p633.DFI [n, a] If the files aren't located in the root directory, change into the correct directory or include the path in the command line. In the following Example, the files were copied to the wangtek directory: c:\wangtek\flash4 p633.dfi [n or a] Description of command line: Flash4.exe = the executible used to upgrade firmware *.dfi file = the firmware upgrade file n = Flash TID n only; (Example: 1 which would specify SCSI ID #1) a = Flash all attached TS420C tape drives (will occur sequentially) If third command line parameter is omitted [n or a], then only id 0 will be flashed. 4. When the download procedure begins, the following message will appear: "Each unit requires about 30 seconds, please wait. Restore EEPROM(s) to default value(s)? Y/N/A" "Type Y for YES, N for NO or A for All Devices, and press ENTER." (In most cases, answer Yes.) 5. When the upgrade is completed, the following message will appear: "Download of firmware successful." DO NOT power off the drive while the firmware upgrade is in process. Power loss to the drive will render the drive inoperable and will require service to repair. You must reboot your system before using the tape drive to ensure your controller recognizes the firmware upgrade.Download Driver Pack
