TAPE UTILITIES:
Retension Tape:
Press the F1 key to retension your tape. Retensioning your
tape will NOT erase any information that is stored there. It
will just help to make sure you can read and write properly from
your tape. You would want to retension your tape 1) if it had
been shipped through the mail or otherwise been moved around a
lot; 2) if it is a brand new tape; 3) if you have had a problem
with reading or writing to the tape; or 4) if the tape has
been in an environment where the temperature has changed
substantially.
If you wish to retension your tape, just answer Y for yes to
the question DO YOU WISH TO RE-TENSION THE TAPE? When you
press the return key, this procedure will begin.
Erase Tape:
Before you erase a tape, BE SURE this is the tape that you want
to erase. You can easily do this by pressing the F3 function
key when the Main Menu is on the screen (Tape Directory). Once
you erase a tape, you can NEVER RECOVER THE INFORMATION THAT WAS
STORED ON IT !!!!
If you wish to erase your tape, just answer Y for yes to the
message on your screen WARNING - ERASE WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON
THE TAPE. CONTINUE? You must type in a Y (for yes) and press
the return key, and the erase procedure will begin.
Verify Tape:
Use this option to verify that your tape is readable by the
tape system. Read-after-write verify is done while a backup
is being made; use the Verify command if you want to verify the
integrity of your data at a later time. Verify checks the CRC
at the end of each block of data on the tape; it does not do a
data comparison with the data on the disk.
