INSTALL TAPE SOFTWARE

Press F1 when you are ready to begin installation of the software.
The display will then prompt you for the letter of the disk drive
on which you want the tape software installed. If the letter
displayed is correct, press return. If you want the software
installed on a different drive, type in the letter of that drive
and then press return. The display will then prompt you for
a directory name in which to install the software. If you would
like to use the name QIC, press return, but if you would like
to create your own directory name then follow standard PC or
MS DOS format (up to eleven characters may be used, and if more
than eight are used, a period must immediately follow the eighth
character), and enter your selected name. Then press return.

Select the next step from the four functions listed at the bottom
of the screen. If you want to continue with the installation
process, press F1; if not, press the appropriate key for one
of the other three steps. When F1 is pressed, the computer will
copy the diskette into your directory.

After Diskette #1 is copied, the display will prompt you to
remove it, and insert Diskette #2 into Drive A; then press return.
Diskette #2 is then copied into the directory. When this step
is finished, the display will prompt you to enter the letter
of the drive that your system boots from. Enter the correct
letter, and then press return. (If a CONFIG.SYS file doesn't
exist in the root directory of the boot disk, one will be created
there at this time. If one does exist, but buffers have been
set to less than 15 or greater than 20, it will be modified
to set buffers at 17). One of three different messages will
     then be displayed:

       1) "INSTALLATION SUCCESSFUL"....this is the display that you
will normally see, indicating that the tape software
installation was successful; you may press F1 to return
to the main menu. Press F3 if you then wish to return to
          DOS control.

       2) "NOT COMPLETE. CONFIG.SYS FILE NOT UPDATED.".... if this
display comes up, either the software had difficulty
updating the CONFIG.SYS file, or the operator did not
want it updated. In both cases the program will still
operate, but speed performance may be somewhat degraded.

       3) "INSTALLATION UNSUCCESSFUL"....this means that the software
could not be installed, and an error message indicating
the reason will be displayed. Refer to Appendix D for an
          explanation of error messages.

To run the menu software, you must go to the directory you
created (in our example QIC). You can do this by typing CD \QIC
(for our example directory) and pressing return, when you are
currently logged onto your hard disk, and the tape menu system
will come up (as detailed in Chapter 2). To run the tape system
in command mode, just get to the directory you created as noted
above (in our example, the directory is QIC), and then type a
legal command (as detailed in Chapter 3), followed by pressing
     return.

                                [End of Text]
