* 3.  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
*******************************************************************************

Both attended and unattended installation methods are supported in this
release of the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver package.

Attended install instructions:
------------------------------
1) Run SETUP.EXE (located in the same directory as this README.TXT file)

2) Read and agree to the Intel software license agreement

3) By default, the target directory chosen to write the Intel Ultra ATA Storage
Driver files is C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTEL\INTELATA. (Choose a different
   directory name if desired.)

NOTE: At this point, the automated installer has finished. Manual
installation is now required to complete driver install.

4) Select START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.

5) Invoke the "SCSI Adapters" applet. Note that although the driver is to be
installed under SCSI Adapters, the drier only supports ATA/ATAPI devices.

6) Click on the folder tab labeled "Drivers." The currently installed SCSI
adapter drivers will be listed in the Drivers menu.

7) Select the existing controller listed, then select "Remove" to remove the
   driver.

8) Select "Add..." to add a new driver.

9) From the "Install Disk" dialog box, select "Have Disk".

10) The "Windows NT Setup" dialog box will appear prompting for the path of
the installation files. Specify the location of the driver installation
directory when prompted to do so.

11) Click on "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" and then click "Ok".

NOTE: If the driver was previously installed on the system, a dialog box will
appear that states that driver for the "Intel PIIX PCI Bus Master IDE
controller" or "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" is already on the system.
If this occurs, select "New" to install the new driver.

12) When prompted, reboot the system as directed in order for the changes to
    take effect.

NOTE: After installation, the INTELATA.SYS file is stored in the <Windows NT
       directory>\System32\Drivers directory.

Unattended install instructions:
--------------------------------
1) Unattended install for the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver:

The Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver may be installed using the Microsoft
Windows NT4.0 unattended installation procedure. This installation package
includes a sample TXTSETUP.OEM file, and below is a example of what needs to
be added to the UNATTEND.TXT file, a Microsoft-provided file that exists in
the Windows NT 4.0 \i386 directory. For details of how to perform an
unattended driver installation, refer to the Microsoft document entitled
"Deployment Guide Automating Windows NT Setup."

NOTE: The InstallShield program, SETUP.EXE, must first be run to extract the
compressed INTELATA.SYS file to the user's hard disk drive. For
instructions on running SETUP.EXE, see the section above entitled,
       "Attended install instructions."

// sample section from UNATTEND.TXT file

OEMPreinstall = yes

[MassStorageDrivers]
"Intel Ultra ATA Controller" = OEM

[OEMBootFiles]
INTELATA.INF
INTELATA.SYS
TXTSETUP.OEM

2) Unattended install for the Intel Ultra ATA Companion application:

The Intel Ultra ATA Companion application may also be installed in an
unattended fashion, by simply invoking SETUP.EXE with the "-S" switch, as
follows:

     C:\> SETUP -S

Running the setup program with the -S option causes the InstallShield script
to run without prompting the user.

NOTE: By employing this silent install feature, the user is implicitly
agrees to the Intel software license agreement, and the user accepts
the default install settings; thus, the installed directory name will
be C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTEL\INTELATA. There is no mechanism to change
this path when running SETUP with the -S switch. Also, running the
SETUP.EXE program with the -S switch causes the Intel Ultra ATA Storage
Driver files (INTELATA.SYS, INTELATA.INF) to be copied to the same
       directory.

*******************************************************************************
* 4.  VERIFYING SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION
*******************************************************************************

1) Select "My Computer".

2) Open the "Control Panel" Folder.

3) Invoke the "SCSI Adapters" applet.

4) A list of active SCSI adapters and connected devices will be displayed.
One or more instances of "Intel Ultra ATA Controller" should be listed.

NOTE: This text may vary according to the release of Windows* NT 4.0. One
instance will be listed for each controller interface that is currently
enabled with devices connected to it.

5) A new program folder, "Intel Ultra ATA," will now exist off the Start menu.
This folder will contain shortcuts to this README.TXT file, the Companion
