Promise FastTrak Series Linux Driver Version 1.2.0.14 Installation note for Turbo Linux Workstation 7.0 [11/30/2001] [INTRODUCTION] 1.1 Foreword This driver diskette should be used with all Promise FastTrak Series cards and onboard chipsets running Turbo Linux Workstation 7.0 operating system. Do NOT use this diskette for other versions of Linux for FastTrak support. 1.2 Linux ATA issue on FastTrak series Linux kernel 2.4.x misidentifies FastTrak series PDC20262 or PDC20265 (FastTrak66 or FastTrak100 Lite motherboard-embedded solutions) chips as simple IDE controllers. This results in the built-in Linux IDE driver trying to handle the controller and can prevent the proper FastTrak ATA RAID driver to be loaded. It will called "IDE issue". Follow the installation instructions AND the parameter commands referred to in the Notes section. [INSTALLATION] 2.1 Install the FastTrak Series Linux Driver into an EXISTING SYSTEM: a). If you are in "IDE issue", please change screen to text mode, press TAB key and append parameters (see Note 3.1 below) when "boot:" prompt appears The LILO parameters should be appended to "/etc/lilo.conf". It is not necessary to key in parameters each time. --- OR --- For all other Promise FastTrak chipsets, ignore step a and proceed to step b. b). Insert FastTrak Driver Disk to floppy, issuing command to setup FastTrak series driver. # mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy # cd /mnt/floppy # ./setup-ft # cd / # umount /dev/fd0 # insmod ft 2.2 Install the FastTrak Series Linux Driver into an NEW SYSTEM a). Start Turbo Linux Installation from TurboLinux CD. b). Type parameters (see Note 3.2 below) when boot: prompted, continue with the installation as normal. c). When installation menu at the 'configure boot loader', select Advenced tab and use linear mode here, If you are in "IDE issue", please type kernel parameters here.(see Note 3.1 below) d). Please remove all floppy disk for reboot TurboLinux. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
