Adaptec's USB2connect Readme For Adaptec's AUA-2000LP, 3100LP, and the 5100 Host Adapters Supporting Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 Driver version 1.1 ============================================================ Thank you for purchasing the Adaptec USB2connect PCI-to-USB 2.0 Host Adapter. This product will allow you to connect USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices to your desktop PC. By using the Adaptec USB 2.0 drivers, which are included on this CD, you are able to fully utilize the capabilities of the USB 2.0 bus (480 Mbps) giving higher speeds providing for greater productivity. Documentation ============= Much of our documentation is released in PDF format. To view these documents you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4 or later installed on your system. You can find a copy of this software on the CD shipped with your product or you can download the latest version from <http://www.adobe.com>. Notes ===== You need to install the USB 2.0 Driver provided on this CD to use USB 2.0 devices at USB 2.0 speeds, otherwise those devices will be treated as USB 1.1 devices. Moving your controller card from one PCI-slot to another will cause Windows to initiate a new hardware installation procedure. Since all of Adaptec's USB2connect Host Adapters consist of two OHCI Host controllers for USB 1.1 devices and one EHCI Host controller for USB 2.0 devices, it will appear as three host controllers in the device manager list. Two of the controllers will be appear as a USB Open Host Controller and one will appear as a USB Enhanced Host Controller. Please consult your system manufacturer's documentation on power management for the correct method of entering and recovering from standby mode. Some applications that reside in the system tray may conflict with a system's ability to enter or recover from standby mode. Installation Procedure ====================== Please refer to the Installation Guide for instructions on how to install the USB2connect Host Adapter and the User's Guide for instructions on how to install the USB 2.0 Driver. On the AUA-5100 Host Adapter there is a jumper which enables or disables the internal USB port and the top most external USB port marked with Int/Ext on the face plate (where the external USB ports are located.). Please refer to the "Installing Jumpers" section of the User's Guide for complete instructions on setting the jumper. Mass Storage Devices ==================== If you are using a mass storage device that employ USB Storage Bridge technology from In-System Design, Inc. you can download their latest driver from: <http://www.in-system.com>. These drivers will only work with certain USB storage devices containing ISD technology and if you are unsure as to the type of USB bridge technology employed by your storage peripheral, please contact the manufacturer of your USB storage device. The drivers from In-System Design, Inc., are compatible with Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 and have been tested extensively with the Adaptec USB 2.0 Driver and Adaptec USB cards. Known USB 2.0 Issues ==================== - When using Windows 2000, some scanners will not be able to enter standby mode if Adobe Photo Deluxe's v1.1 "Adobe ATM 4.0 component" is installed. - When using Windows 2000, some CD-RW drives will not be able to enter standby mode if the Adaptec Easy CD Creator's v4.02 "Create CD Menu System" component is installed. General Troubleshooting ======================= - Please refer to the Troubleshooting section of the User's Guide for general troubleshooting tips. Troubleshooting USB 2.0 ======================= - When some mice and USB keyboards are connected to different OHCI controller ports, the mice will not function after recovering from a suspend. To workaround this issue, unplug the mouse and plug it back in. Also get the latest version of the mouse driver from the device vendor. - Under Windows 2000 with the USB 2.0 PDK (from USB-IF) installed, the Adaptec USBXchange will not be detected. Download the latest driver for the USBXchange from the Adaptec Web site. - Under Windows 2000 with the USB 2.0 PDK (from USB-IF) installed, when a USB 2.0 Hub is connected to the DuoConnect AUA-3121 and has a USB 1.1 Web Camera and a USB 1.1 Mouse connected to it, the system may stall. To work around this issue, connect the Web Camera directly to the DuoConnect AUA-3121 card. - Under Windows ME, some removable drives will not be detected when resuming from suspend mode, if connected to an USBXchange. To workaround this issue, connect an external power supply to the USBXchange. USB 2.0 Driver Limitations: =========================== The following USB 2.0 devices and features are not supported in this driver release: - USB 2.0 HUBs. - USB 2.0 Isochronous devices. - Composite USB 2.0 Devices. - USB Remote Wake Up. Troubleshooting the USB 2.0 Driver ================================== - When using Windows ME, the Device Manager will have a green question mark next to any USB 2.0 device which is connected to an Adaptec USB 2.0 card. The device will continue to function properly. This is an operating system feature. - When using Windows 98SE, if the system attempts to enter in-active standby (S3 mode), the driver will only allow it to enter standby (S1 mode). - When using Windows ME, the system may report that the USB 2.0 CD-RW connected to an Adaptec AUA-2000LP card does not contain any media when resuming from a suspend. To workaround this issue; use the "unplug or eject hardware" icon in the system to remove the USB 2.0 CD-RW. Unplug the USB 2.0 CD-RW from the card, and then plug it back in. - When doing a hot-unplug/hot-plug, the system may not recognize the USB 2.0 device. To workaround this issue, allow at least 3 seconds between a hot-unplug and hot-plug. - When using Windows 2000, if two or more USB 2.0 devices are disconnected using the "unplug or eject hardware" icon in the system tray without physically removing the device, then when one of the USB 2.0 devices is physically removed, the other USB 2.0 device will re-enumerate. To workaround this issue, hot-unplug each USB device you want to remove before using the "unplug or eject hardware" icon to remove the next USB device. - When using Windows 2000, with certain CD-RW applications running, the system may stall if an USB CD-RW drive is removed using the "unplug or eject hardware" icon in the system tray. - When using Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000, the system may not behave properly should it attempt to enter active-standby (S3 mode). - When using Windows 2000, the system may prompt you to locate the USB 2.0 scanner driver and may request a restart if the scanner is unplugged and plugged into a different USB port. To workaround this issue, locate the scanner driver and restart the system as requested. Failure to do this may result in a yellow exclamation mark next to your scanner entry in the Device Manager. If you experience this problem please avoid plugging and unplugging your scanner into different USB ports. Please check the device manufactures web site for their latest software updates. - When using Windows 2000, disabling and re-enabling the USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) with the Device Manager (without restarting the system) an error dialog may appear. To workaround this issue, restart the system. Please check the device manufactures web site for their latest software updates. 25.09.2001 21.24Download Driver Pack
