<< Document Scanning >>
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following section describes IMAGING as an example.
TWAIN-compliant software (e.g. Photo Shop, Paint Shop Pro, ...)can scan
a document in versions of Windows that do not support IMAGING.
"FAX Scanner" drivers support TWAIN 32 bit.
However, programs that support only TWAIN 16 bit (e.g. imaging programs
of Windows 95/NT 4.0)cannot scan documents

1. Document scanning - Imaging
   1) Select Start, Programs, Accessories, Imaging.
   2) Select File, Select Scanner, "FAX Scanner".
   3) Place the document you want to scan in your fax.
   4) Select File, Scan New.
   5) In the "FAX Scanner" dialog box click Scan.
   6) Scanning starts.

<< Troubleshooting >>
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. If the print speed is slow
   1) Too many application programs are open.
Closing programs you do not need may speed up printing.
   2) HP's printer driver is installed in your PC.
Remove HP's printer driver software. If there are any problems,
      contact HP.

2. If Print/Scan does not display a message on your PC
   1) The printer port is not checked as bi-directional in your printer's
      properties.
   2) Method:
      *For Windows 95/98/ME
Open <Properties> of "FAX Printer" -> select <Details> tab ->
       open <Spool Settings> -> check <Enable bi-directional support for
this printer> -> click OK -> click OK
      *For Windows 2000/XP
Open <Properties> of "FAX Printer" -> click <Ports> tab ->
       check <Enable bi-directional support> -> click OK

3. If Print/Scan does not function or if there are broken characters
   1) The parallel(LPT) port driver is not a driver that Windows supports.
If the printer port is set to 'LPT1: (LG Printer Port)'
   2) Change your printer port to 'LPT1: (Printer Port)' or
      'LPT1: (ECP Printer Port).
   3) Method:
      Start -> Control Panel -> System ->Device Manager ->Ports (COM&LPT) ->
Remove 'LG Printer Port(LPT1)' -> click 'Refresh' ->
      LPT is installed.
Changed to Windows supported printer port.

4. If Print/Scan does not function or an error message appears on your PC
   1) The printer is connected to USB/LPT cables at the same time.
   2) The "Printer is in use" message appears continuously on your PC.
      You cannot print or scan.
   3) This printer does not support LPT/USB ports at the same time.
You must use only one printer port(LPT or USB).

5. The printer does not work in the Windows 95 environment.
When scanning, the [ Scanning... ] message appears on the printer's LCD
but the machine does not switch to the STANDBY mode.
   1) Reboot your computer and run BIOS Setup.
   2) Select Integrated Peripherals or I/O Device Configuration.
   3) If the Parallel Port Mode is set to ECP or ECP+EPP, change it to SPP.
'SPP' differentiates between BIOS : Standard / Normal / Output Only
   4) Restart Windows and print again.

6. Scanning is completed, but the scanned image is not displayed.
The printer has received the data but cannot print.
   1) This problem occurs if there is another MFP printer driver
installed on your computer. Remove the printer driver that is causing
the problem, restart your system and try again.
   2) You can also try quitting a program that may be using another printer
      driver and print again.
   3) If more than one bi-directional printer is installed they will
share the same LPT port, which may cause a transmission problem.

7. Bi-directional printing
By default your printer driver prints bi-directionally.
With the printer status turned on:
   1) Open <Properties> of "FAX Printer".
   2) Select <Details> and open <Spool Settings>.
   3) Click <Enable bi-directional support for this printer>.
   4) Click <OK>.
   5) Clicking <OK> applies the changes you have made.

8. Uni-directional printing
By default your printer driver prints bi-directionally.
With the printer status turned off:
   1) Open <Properties> of "FAX Printer".
   2) Select <Details> and open <Spool Settings>.
   3) Click <Disable bi-directional support for this printer>.
   4) Click <OK>.
   5) Clicking <OK> applies the changes you have made.

(Input Jam / Center Jam / Output Jam)
   1) Open the top cover and take the toner cartridge out of the machine.
   2) Pull the handle for removing jammed paper on the left.
      Pull out the paper.
   3) Pull out the paper from where the toner cartridge was located or
      remove it from the front.
Be careful not to tear the paper.
   4) Replace the cartridge, close the cover and print again.

10.The document has not printed correctly. Some parts are missing.
   1) Insufficient printer memory.
   2) Try to change the resolution to 300 DPI and print again.

11.In Microsoft PowerPoint documents, the graphics or the color texts
   are all printed in black.
   1) Select <File> -> <Print>
