************************************************************************** *** Instructions for installing TX97 motherboards and LS-120 drives ****** ************************************************************************** *** Useful if re-installing machine from scratch *** *** Readme v1.10 14/6/97 *** ************************************************************************** BIOS settings for the LS-120 on TX97 ------------------------------------ Set the BIOS to the typical values as normal (e.g. no ECP etc). Then check the following: Standard CMOS : Set floppy drives A,B to none BIOS features : Virus disabled (in order to install Windows 95) Boot A,C Boot floppy seek disabled Chipset Features : Onboard FDC disabled Power Management : User Def; Susp, Stby :> Off DPMS off Soft off All this enables the machine to be able to boot off 1.44Mb / 120Mb etc. Getting Windows 95 to fully recognise devices --------------------------------------------- Should you have to re-install a fresh install of Windows 95 SR2.0 then you will find that the LS-120 is recognised fine, i.e. for both 1.44Mb and 120 Mb operations you use the 'Floppy A' in My Computer/Explorer. However, Device Manager will report the IDE controller as standard PCI / DUAL PCI etc since it has no support for the 82371AB controller. DO NOT use the drivers on the CD which came with the motherboard to solve this problem. If you did, this will cause an 'A' drive 1.44Mb device and a 120Mb removeable drive appear in My Computer/Explorer, and generally mess things up with the machine taking 5 minutes to access one file from the floppy! Instead, copy the MACHINE.INF and MSHDC.INF from the A:\TX97 directory into the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory. Refreshing the drive controllers in device manager should now mean that it picks up the 82371AB controller fine AND you will only get ONE reference in My Computer/Explorer to the LS-120. Also, the 'Unknown device' (PCI Bridge) in device manager will now disappear. You can now install the USB update to SR2 if you require. Afterwards, copy the updated USB.INF from A:\USB into C:\WINDOWS\INF. CD-ROM device support in DOS ---------------------------- Typically, the current machines that come with an LS-120 have them as Slave to a Panasonic 24x Master CD-ROM drive. However, R&D seem to think that it might be better to have the Master and Slave switched around; hopefully we shall see soon which is best. Most cd-rom drives seem to work fine with the LS-120, and the real-mode drivers can be installed in the usual way. You can use the CR_ATAPI.SYS v5.17x to load DOS support for the Panasonic 24x cd-rom, but it will intermittantly take extraordionarily long (15+secs) to load the driver on bootup. A better solution seems to be to load ATAPIMGR.SYS (found in A:\LS120) in the CONFIG.SYS and then to load the latest IDE/DVD Panasonic driver SR_ASPI.SYS (in same directory) instead of CR_ATAPI.SYS. There is a sample AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS in that directory if this is of any help. Unfortunately, Windows 95 sees ATAPIMGR.SYS and goes into MS-DOS compatability mode. To combat this, edit your C:\WINDOWS\IOS.INI file and add the line ATAPIMGR.SYS ; MKE ATAPI Manager as described in the Engineering Change Notice no. 9713061. There is also an example IOS.INI file in A:\LS120. The above information seems to be correct. Please tell me if there are any mistakes in it after trying it out for yourselves. => RCO.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
