Release Notes GCC Printing Software for Windows December 1996 Congratulations on your purchase of a laser printer from GCC Technologies. These release notes contain information that was not included in the User's Manual, and applies to printers in the Elite 600 and SelectPress printer families. Additional release notes specific to each printer may be found in the following files: Filename Printer -------- ------- ELITE600.TXT Elite 600 SPRESS.TXT SelectPress Please read the file corresponding to your printer model. Complete Microsoft Windows Support ---------------------------------- The GCC Printing Software for Windows now includes support for the following operating systems: Windows 95; version 3.5 or later of Windows NT; and version 3.1 or later of Windows or Windows for Workgroups. For instructions on software installation procedures for Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.5, please see the manual supplement which accompanies this software release. However, please note the following changes: Windows NT 3.5 software has been placed in a subdirectory named NT35; and Windows NT 4.0 software is in a subdirectory named NT40, accompanied by a file named README.TXT which contains installation instructions. Windows 95 and parallel ports ----------------------------- If you are using Windows 95 and have your GCC printer connected to your computer's parallel port, please follow this procedure after using the Add Printer Wizard to add the printer to your system: 1. Click the printer's icon so it is highlighted. 2. Click File in the menu bar and select Properties. 3. Click the Details tab at the top of the dialog box. 4. Click the Spool Settings... button near the bottom of the Details panel. 5. Click the radio button labeled "Disable bi-directional support for this printer". 6. Click OK to close the Spool Settings dialog box. 7. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box. Change to Windows PPD and PDX installation ------------------------------------------ Due to the addition of support for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT, the locations of the PPD and PDX files have changed. The PPD (format 4) files are now in the root directory of the Printing Software disk, while the PPD (format 3) and PDX files have been placed in a subdirectory named PPD3. The Quark PDF files remain in the root directory. To install the files on your hard disk, type a command similar to one of the following. For Adobe Illustrator 4.0 or 4.1: COPY A:\PPD3\*.PPD C:\AI4\PPD For Adobe PageMaker 6.0: COPY A:\*.PPD C:\PM6\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4 For Aldus FreeHand 3.1 and earlier: COPY A:\PPD3\*.* C:\ALDUS\USENGLSH\PPDS For Aldus FreeHand 4.0 and PageMaker 5.0: COPY A:\*.PPD C:\ALDUS\USENGLSH\PPD4 For Macromedia FreeHand 5.0: COPY A:\*.PPD C:\FH5\USENGLSH\PPD For QuarkXPress: COPY A:\*.PDF C:\XPRESS Depending on where you have installed any of these applications, the path names may be different. Windows 3.1 driver update for Elite 600 and SelectPress ------------------------------------------------------- This software release contains an updated Windows 3.1 driver for the Elite 600 and SelectPress printers. If you are using Windows 3.1, and you previously had drivers installed for Elite 600 or SelectPress printers, you should remove them before installing the updated driver. Open the Printer control panel. You may wish to note the current connection, settings, and options for each printer (see Chapter 4 of the user's manual). Then, one at a time, select the Elite 600 and SelectPress printers and click the Remove button. When you are done, click the Close button. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
