Subject: Technical Information On the OS/2 ODI Device Driver
Version: 2.60
Date: June 10, 1996
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

OS/2 SMC8020 ODI driver is based on version 1.20 of SMC9000 DOS ODI device
driver.

Release Note for the current release
------------------------------------

1. Based on Debugging release code Ver2.50, cleaned up the code and make
    a formal release.

2. Banner changed.

3. Code fixes: issues in Novell OS2IOCTL test.

4. Change ODI driver name to be SMC8020 which includes the Link Driver
    name in net.cfg.

    for example of net.cfg

         Link Driver SMC8020
         MEDIA_TYPE 10BaseT
         NODE ADDRESS 000012345678

5 Code Fix: Give an appropriate error message when failed to register
interrupt in initialization. File msm.txt need to be modified
              for the fix.

6. Added a keyword MEDIA_TYPE for media selection in net.cfg and modified
    the ODI driver accordingly.

    The keyword settings are

         MEDIA_TYPE Automatic
         MEDIA_TYPE 10BaseT
         MEDIA_TYPE BNC

If the keyword is missing in net.cfg, the default is automatic.

7. Refer to NE2000 OS/2 ODI driver, added code to make the driver to be
canonical node address format for making DIF and MLID table identical
    in OS2IOCTL test.

8. Due to items 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7, a new MSM.MSG file is released.

9. Changed the assembling environment to reduce debugging time.
Enabler and ODI use the same environment. Please refer to enabler's
    readme.txt file.

10. Moved all variables related to PCMCIA card to a more appropriate location.

11. Modified the parsing of combo card's CIS. Instead of scanning through
all of tuple IDs, LongLink tuple ID is used for searching the Node
address. For single function card, since LongLink tuple is not existed,
we still scan through all of tuples.

12. the released ODI drivers supports ISA LAN card and PCMCIA LAN and
    multifunction cards

13. Modified one of PCIC register to "fix" (?) the problem Port not Alive
problem when node address is not overrided.

14. This ODI driver supports both the LAN only and multi-function cards.

15. Due to a potential hardware issue, this driver has not been fully
    tested with TCIC controller.
