Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the basic Gateway OEM Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value sound card.


Identification

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon.  

3.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.  

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.  If Creative SB Live! Series (WDM) is listed, this is the correct driver.


Installation

1.  Close all open windows, except this readme.txt file, if instructions are needed.

2.  If not already done, locate and double-click the 7512042.exe file that you downloaded from the Internet.  This file should be located on your desktop.

3.  Files are extracted to the C:\Cabs\7512042 folder.

4.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

5.  In Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon.  

6.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

7.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 

8.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers, and then double-click Creative SB Live! Series (WDM).

9.  In the Creative SB Live! Series (WDM) Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

10.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

11.  In the next dialog box, perform the following steps.

 a.  Click to clear the Search removable media (Floppy, CD-ROM) check box.
 b.  Select the Include this location in the search check box.
 c.  In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\7512042.
 d.  Click Next.

12.  Files copy.

13.  In the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Finish.  

14.  Close all open dialog boxes.

15.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon.  

3.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.  

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers, and then double-click Creative SB Live! Series (WDM).

6.  In the Creative SB Live! Series (WDM) Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall Driver.

7.  In the Warning dialog box, click OK.

8.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.  If there is another prompt to restart the computer, click Yes.


Troubleshooting

If you having difficulty during or after the driver installation, perform these troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Verify that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Verify that the system is set to analog or digital depending on the speakers you have by following this procedure:

 a.  On the Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, and then click Volume Control. 
 b.  In the Volume Control window, below the Play Control Volume slider, click Advanced. 

Note: If the Advanced option is not below the Play Control Volume slider, on the Options menu, click Advanced Controls. 

 c.  In the Advanced Options for Play Control dialog box, select or clear the Digital Output Only check box for the type of output you have.  Select the check box for digital output, clear the check box for analog output. When complete, click Close.

3.  Verify that the sound card is fully seated in the PCI expansion slot.

4.  Reinstall the driver following the installation procedure in this document.


Reason for Update

This is the latest Gateway-supported basic driver for the Creative SB Live! Value sound card.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
