Xircom LAN Installation Instructions for a Generic Windows 98 environment

Please note:  If you have an NEC Windows 98 environment, you do not need to 
install these drivers.

 1.  Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.

 2.  At the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab. 

 3.  Select "PCI Ethernet Controller" from under Other devices and click the Properties
     button.

 4.  At the PCI Ethernet Controller Properties window select the Driver tab.

 5.  Click on Update Driver.

 6.  At the Update Device Driver Wizard window click Next.

 7.  At the following window select "Display a list of all the drivers..." and click Next.

 8.  At the next window, select "Network adapters" from the list and click next.

 9.  At the Select Device window, click the Have Disk button.

10.  At the Install from Disk window enter the following path:
	C: \Windows\Options\Xircom-LAN40175-9x
	and then click OK.

11.  At the Select Device window highlight "Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI" and click OK.

12.  You will be prompted for the "Intel PRO Adapter CD-ROM or floppy disk" - click OK.

13.  At the Insert Disk window re-enter the path from step 10 and click OK.  You may 
     have to repeat this step several times.

14.  You will be returned to the Update Device Driver Wizard window;  click Next.

15.  Repeat step 13 if necessary.

16.  You will be prompted to insert your Windows 98 CD-ROM;  insert your
     Windows 98 CD-ROM and click OK.

17.  At the following window click Finish.

18.  At the System Settings Change window you will be prompted to restart your 
     computer.  Click Yes to do so.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
