****** Windows 2000 Driver Installation Notes for Colorado drives ****** These drivers are primarily provided to allow Colorado and Travan Tape drives to work with the Backup Applications provided as part of Windows 2000. They may also be useful for other backup applications other than that supplied by HP. These drivers are provided on the latest version of HP's Colorado Backup II, version 9.0, which fully supports Windows 2000. WARNING: Colorado External drives will appear to work with the Windows Backup Application in Windows 2000 and will backup but NOT restore. Files provided eptap2k.inf - The information file for the SCM ATAPI Adaptor epatap2k.sys - The system file for the SCM ATAPI Adaptor readme.txt - This file you are reading hptape2k.inf - The information file for the tape drive itself qic157.sys - The system file for the tape drives (should already be installed as part of Windows 2000) ------------------------------------ start of installation - With the PC turned off, first connect the parallel port device and make sure it is up and running - Start Windows 2000, the OS should automatically find the new hardware and run the installation wizard - The new hardware will usually be detected as something like vid_04ebpid_8000002 or vid_04e6 PID_80000002. This is just the vendor and product idientification numbers that Windows 2000 can't identify yet. - When you are prompted to provide the drivers, then identify where you have the drivers saved (e.g. A:\) - The driver files will now be copied and the system may timeout for a short while until the driver loading process has completed. The device will be detected as a SCM PPort ATAPI Adapter - After all new hardware sub-devices (the actual drives themselves) have been detected and installed, then the new device should become accessible via the application provided for your peripheral -------------------- End of Installation. If you experience problems then you can copy the files into the relevant folders for Windows 2000 to automatically locate: eptap2k.inf to /windows/inf eptap2k.sys to /windows/system32/drivers The actual Colorado product already has it's relevant .sys file within Windows 2000, but not the .inf file. When prompted, to provide the driver, then identify where you have the hptape2k.inf drivers saved (e.g. A:\). hptape2k.inf qic157.sys Again, if you experience problems then you can place these files directly in the relevant folders for Windows 2000 to automatically locate: hptape2k.inf to /windows/inf qic157.sys should already exist in /windows/system32/driversDownload Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
