Installing the Driver on Windows 98: Before starting with the installation process, make sure that the adapter is properly installed and configured. 1.When you plug the AOpen AON-315 in the mother board and power on the Windows 98, the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' window will prompt and says that The wizard search for new driver for: PCI Ethernet Controller 2.In the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' window,click 'Next' then it will ask you 'What do you want Windows to do?'. Choose the item that Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want. Click 'Next'. 3.Click 'Have Disk' button. In the 'Install From Disk' window, put the driver disk in the floppy drive and enter the driver path i.e. 'A:\Win98' in combo list and click 'OK'. It will show 'AOpen AON-315 10/100M Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter ' in the Models field of 'Select Device' window. Click 'OK'. 4.There will show 'A:\Win98\NETAN315.INF' in the Location of driver field for the device 'AOpen AON-315 10/100M Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter ' in the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' window. Click 'Next'. 5.Specify the path of the driver files i.e A:\Win98, then the Windows will copy the necessary files for the driver and system files. Click 'Finish'. 6.Select the appropriate Connection Type (default is Auto-Negotiation). Click 'OK'. 7.If this is your first time to install the Ethernet adapter and have not install the protocols and clients for Microsoft and Netware, please do NOT restart the computer. Go to the Start\Settings\Control and double-click the Network icon to install the other necessary files for the network operation. Windows 98 will ask you Do you want to restart your computer now?, Click 'Yes' to restart the Windows 98. B. Change the property of AOpen AON-315: There are some properties that you can change for your application. 1. Connection Type: AutoSense Senses dynamically the media ports 10BaseT (TP) To connect 10BaseT Ethernet hubs 10BaseT (TP) Full Duplex To connect 10BaseT Full Duplex hubs 10BaseT (TP) No_Link_Test To connect hubs not supporting the Link Integrity Test 100BaseTx (TP 100) To connect 100BaseTx Ethernet hubs 100BaseTx (TP 100) FDx To connect 100BaseTx Full Duplex hubs You can change the speed to be 10M or 100M and change to be the Full duplex or Half duplex. The default value is Auto Mode,i.e. AOpen AON-315 will talk with connection Hub or Switch with auto-negotiation to decide the optimal connection type.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
