		    Winbond Electronics Corporation



Description:

  1. W840S is a Solaris 2.5x driver. It is for the Solaris 2.5x environment
     only.

  2. If you want to install this driver, you need the following files:

	w840s	  Winbond W89C840 100M/10M PCI Ethernet Driver Program
	setup840  Winbond W89C840 100M/10M PCI Ethernet Software Setup Program


Installation:

  1. login as root user

  2. copy SETUP840 and W840S files.
	  # doscp a:setup840
	  # doscp a:w840s

  3. execute SETUP840
	  # chmod +x setup840
	  # ./setup840

     You will be asked for some information described below:

     Do you wish to install, configure or remove the network board? (i/c/r/q) [q]

     3.1 i or I - install the  network driver

Configure:
	 Please choose the value of burst length that you want ...

	   1. 1 longword.
	   2. 2 longwords.
	   3. 4 longwords.
	   4. 8 longwords.
	   5. 16 longwords.
	   6. 32 longwords(default value).

	 Enter number of burst length selection <1 2 3 4 5 6> [6] or 'q' to quit: 6

	 Burst Length : 32 longword.

	 Please choose the value of cache alignment that you want ...

	   1. 8-longword boundary alignment.
	   2. 16-longword boundary alignment.
	   3. 32-longword boundary alignment(default value).

	 Cache Alignment : 32-longword boundary alignment.

	 Please choose the value of transmit threshold that you want ...

	 If you answer 'y', the Configure loop will be continued.

	 If you answer 'n' (default), then the following files will be
	 generated and copied to the appropriate locations.

	 [1] w840s will be copied to /kernel/drv directory.

	 [2] w840s.conf will be created and filled as

	     BurstLen=8192 CacheAlign=49152 TxThreshold=0 Nway=0 LineSpeed=0
	     FullDuplex=0;

	     then be copied to /kernel/drv directory.

	 [3] hosts will be appended as following, if it just contains localhost
	     originally.

	       127.0.0.1    localhost
	       10.2.22.136  hostname loghost
	       10.2.22.66   defaultGateway router

	     then be copied to /etc directory.

	 [4] hostname.w840s0 will be created and filled as

	     hostname	  (just includes host name of machine)

	     then be copied to /etc directory.

	 Reboot the system to activate the network driver.

	   #reboot

     3.2 c or C - configure the network board

	 the Configure loop will be continued.

     3.3 r or R - remove the network driver

	 hostname.w840s0 will be deleted


Trouble Shooting:

   1. Message: 'No Winbond 840 board existed!'
      Solution: Make sure that your W89C840 PCI card is plugged into the
		system.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
